Young Jason was just eight when it began. He didn't know why it was happening to him again. His thoughts and dreams were occupied with only one person. But who could he tell? His parents wouldn't be supportive because they attend Jerry Falwell's church. He couldn't discuss it at school because that is where the issue was. Who could he really rely on in this difficult time in his young life, his time of need?

Jason's mood began to swing from a happy child to a depressed child. This left his parents and teacher perplexed. They didn't know what was causing him to act like this and Jason knew he couldn't talk to anyone at church either. Jason began lashing out at home and school. But why? They would soon find out and it wouldn't be pretty.

Jason sat in the principals office, tears streaming down his face. His hazel eyes could no longer hold back his emotions. His parents were concerned because they had never seen their son so unnerved before. What could be so wrong that it caused this beautiful second grader to break down? As Jason's sobs started to subside he was finally calm after nearly three fourths of a box of tissues later, he was able to speak.

Jason knew it was time to tell his parents there in the principals office where he knew he would have some type of support. His teacher had been called into the principals office as well. Now there was nothing but dread and fear in his eyes, and it showed on his beautiful face. He was going to have to reveal his secret to everyone and it would change his life forever. Jason began to explain that he was in fact gay and he was afraid of being disowned by his parents.

This time his parents looked at their beautiful boy in shocked disbelief. Jason's fears were realized when he was told by his parents he wouldn't be allowed to reside in their house any more. That revelation was difficult enough and his tears as his parents uttered those words of non-support. His principal and teacher gasped in horror as Jason's parents turned their back on him.

Jason's next revelation would be an even bigger bombshell. As the principal grabbed Jason's hand, he looked into her eyes for courage. Finally, Jason revealed his deepest darkest secret. As all the adults were shocked and hushed he told them he was in love with and attracted to his teacher. Jason's teacher stated that while he was gay, he couldn't love Jason the way Jason loved him. He explained to Jason that even though he loved him but he wasn't in love with Jason. Jason didn't understand what his teacher was saying.

Jason's parents asked to be excused from the conference and they explained to Jason, he could never come home again. Jason started sobbing again and asked for his teddy bear. The principal asked Jason to sit outside her office with his teacher. Mr. Jackson was acting as a consoler for Jason. Eventually Jason laid down and placed his head in Mr. Jackson's lap. Mr. Jackson held his hand and stroked Jason's hair and cheek lightly. Soon Jason was sleeping. Mr. Jackson reentered the principals office, she was on the phone with social services.

As Miss Phillips spoke with the case worker, she motioned for Mr. Jackson to sit. Mr. Hawthorne at social services asked for Jason's address so he could go visit the parents and pick up some of Jason's belongings, including his teddy bear.

Jason just became another statistic. According to his parents they weren't going to raise a faggot. Social services wasn't impressed and was disappointed. Social services left Jason's house, the next stop was his school. Jamison Elementary school in Roanoke, Virginia wasn't far from Jason's house.

When Mr. Hawthorne arrived at Jamison, he noticed a sobbing Jason right outside his principals office. He inquired about his parents and Mr. Hawthorne told Jason his parents wanted nothing to do with him. The good news was that Mr. Hawthorne already had a placement for Jason. It was two blocks from Jamison. His foster parents were Mr. Johnson a twenty-four year old gay black man and his husband Mr. Martinez a twenty-six year old Hispanic man.

When Jason arrived he was still in tears. Mr. Johnson extended his arms for Jason to come to him. As Jason was held by Mr. Johnson, he sobbed into his shoulders. Mr. Johnson told Jason he would be fine. He held him out at arms length and tenderly dried his eyes.
