Chapter 1

Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space. Bob isn't so sure about it. He feels like he can the hear the collective scream of mankind - it feels like the end of days. The universe is angry, Americans are angry - everyone is angry, especially Bob.

For years, Bob thought that we would be killed by climate change. The polar vortices, the heated ocean, but he thinks we’ve already entered a mass extinction event.

He always knew an unseen threat would be our demise - most people currently think it's a virus, or nuclear war, but all of that is old news.

We have records showing that there are one hundred year floods that happen with increasing frequency. The economy used to travel on a 30 year trip waxing and waning, and pandemics came around once in a century. Everything has been sped up - including evolution.

The pandemics, like the economy and flooding, now occur with increasing frequency. We will eventually have a real pandemic. One like the plague that killed off one third of Europe. The ecosystem has been damaged enough, the face of the earth altered by man. We have entered a new epoch in the geologic time scale. The anthropocene epoch. Problem is, humans are bringing about their own demise. The pandemic - it isn't a virus, it is an it.

With urbanization, we have created microbiomes, or peripheral isolates. In these ecosystems that are surrounded by water for example, the Galapogos Islands, evolution advances in leaps and bounds with such a small gene pool to work with. The survival of the fittest happens at an accelerated rate. With urban sprawl, we have created micro-ecosystems, surrounded by houses with nowhere for an animal to flee to another gene pool. Viruses can live on fleas that live on a regular old house mouse. Then the mice make it inside.

Evolution is escalated. Covid-19, although not technically alive, can evolve rapidly. This happens without wet markets and labs in China. It is unavoidable. Before people, alien invaders came to an ecosystem by travel on the feet of ducks, the edge of a glacier, eventually wood in carriages and boats. But now it can travel around the world in a day, and the new virus becomes a dominant alien invader in a foreign ecosystem. Then it flourishes even more with its status of as the new “neighborhood” creates no where for them to go, and weak predators that have no chance.

The masks are back, another iteration of Covid is on the rise, but Bobs feels we are bracing for the real pandemic, (also the release of pressure from the San Andreas fault, The eruption of Yellowstone, or no icecaps due to climate change). The earth is still coming out of an Ice Age, so the temperature will rise on its own, the volcanoes will spew gasses, but we are adding so much CO2 to the atmosphere.

So many unseen forces, entities, and philisophies are bringing out the demise of mankind. The collective force of the universe against us, but why?

As far as climate change is concerned, it is a natural cycle. During the time the supercontinent, Pangaea, was a tropical rain forest. Less is the known is first supercontinent we have discovered is the supercontinent Rodinia, which left the planet a ball of ice. Shifting plates, the Milankovitch cycles, the Nansen Rise, these all contribute to climate change. These things take millions of years to happen, not in 100 years as is happening now. When you add our contribution, it becomes a real problem. The countdown clock in Times Square says we have nine years left to come up with a plan. This is happening too slowly to be our real killer. The killer is at the front door.

Have you seen the news? Hell - it won’t be World War III – just a civil war. The countries seem to be getting to be pretty polarized, have you heard about universal basic income? No matter the scale of the war, socialists vs. capitalists, left vs. right, the haves vs. the have nots, the next war might be fought from home, nobody even leaving their house.

But now, pandemics. Eventually we will get a REAL pandemic – something higher than a 2% death toll. And maybe it will be the start of WWIII – the next war won’t use nuclear weapons. We’ll just use the smallpox method – like we did with Native Americans. With evolution in high gear, the next pandemic, will be the next step of mankind. Mankind 2.0 is the next pandemic. Truly an unseen enemy.

But, the next war will be with Homo Futuris as they are the next stage of evolution, Bob thinks. They are smarter, better, faster - and aren’t bogged down by emotions. They will infiltrate the government. They will wipe the homo sapiens the way Neandrathals were wiped out by homo sapiens. Each stage of man will wipe out the previous version. Its survival of the fittest.

The “Normies” won’t see it coming. They are too distracted by the media and the fall of democracy. They/we will be too concerned with fighting communism again. They are hiding their faces because of facial recognition. Clandestine operations are happening, nose jobs, chin implants, cheek bone lifts - anything to make sure that the government doesn’t recognize them. Homo Sapiens versus Homo Futuris? (there has to be a better word).

100,000 years ago, there were six species of humans wandering the planet. For some reason, we assume that currently there is only species of human inhabiting the planet - homo sapiens. However, homo sapiens are believed to interbred with Homo Erectus and Neandrathals. Therefore, the results of that would be that the descendants are not pure homo sapiens. Furthermore, Bob believes that the next generation has already arrived - Homo Futuris.

Homo sapiens either are trying to get off the grid, as Homo Futuris wages it’s war from home, spreading a pandemic virus. Those that are found off the grid are taken to concentration camps for disobeying orders to be catalogued by the government. But, Homo Futuris, is the next virus to be feared.

He can see it now, - it becomes illegal for Homo Sapiens to intermingle with Homo Futuris. Homo Sapiens become indentured servants or slaves for Homo Futuris. The internment camps are used to reeducate Homo Sapiens on domestic life since servitude and hospitality are the only jobs available to them. Homo Futuris has taken the good jobs away.

People now are so concerned about the End of Days in other scenarios that I don’t think too many people have thought of this outcome. That's what Bob thinks anyway. Just trying to fall asleep at night, he has imagined a 1,000 ways for mankind to die. Has has always been distracted by dystopian stories. A civil war is here. Homo Futuris vs. the Sapiens. The Sapiens have already lost, but are too busy to notice.

It's for this reason, that Bob is actually HOPING to be abducted by aliens. he welcomes it. He's been watching TV. He believes in alien DNA. In fact, he believes he has alien DNA and one day, they will come back to get him.

But time is running out, they must come to get him soon. Dystopia is here - climate change, pandemics, evolution - the end is near - he can hear the silent scream from the void of the universe. He knows he can.

It's the eternal race against time, Bob thinks. Will Homo Futuris take over before he is rescued? Where are those big grey heads anyway? He can feel the universe shifting beneath his feet - question is, who is showing up?

It's the end of the world as we know it, and Bob is anything but fine...
