In the 1960s, a transport plane took off from the United States to cut off an abandoned oil pipeline somewhere.

In addition to the pilot Downs, the plane was also carrying 8 employees of the oil company and Elliott, a man who took a temporary flight. When the plane passed over Mongolia, it was unfortunately hit by a sandstorm. After a thrilling and desperate struggle, the plane finally made a successful emergency landing. Just as the 10 people on board cheered for the rest of their lives, they found that they were in the depths of the desert and had little hope of survival. The plane was severely damaged and could not take off again: all radio communication equipment was damaged, and contact with the outside world was interrupted. The compass failed due to the influence of the magnetic field. Without enough food and water, it was impossible to walk out of the desert.

The vast Gobi is endless, the scorching sun is in the sky, scorching every nerve of the survivors, and the breath of death blows in their faces. For different escape plans, 8 oil workers had a fierce quarrel, no one could convince anyone, and finally came to a conclusion: they could only sit still! In a desperate situation, people's instinct to survive was exposed, and many people began to secretly calculate that there was only a small amount of dry food and drinking water left on the plane. Later, it developed into fistfights and open grabs. Pilot Downs fired a warning shot to no avail. The natural disaster has not yet come, and the man-made disaster is about to break out in advance.

At a critical juncture, Elliott, who was on the plane temporarily, stood up and shouted: "Don't panic! I'm an aircraft designer, and the tools on the plane are not damaged. As long as everyone works together and listens to my command, you can fix it. Good plane!" Like a shot of cardiotonic, people stopped fighting immediately, they seemed to have seen the oasis of life, and they all cheered. Under Elliott's command, they were all refreshed and busy, some in charge of dismantling aircraft parts, some in charge of welding, and some even whistling cheerfully while working. In order to avoid the scorching sun, they rest during the day and work at night; food and water can only last for 10 days at most, and in order to save, they consciously eat two meals and one meal. Everything was in order, like a disciplined force, and the restoration of the aircraft was proceeding in an orderly manner.

In the absence of water and food, a group of people united and overcame many difficulties. Ten days later, a miracle happened - the plane was not repaired, and a group of merchants' camels happened to pass by and rescued them.

The 10 survivors followed the caravan to continue across the desert. A few days later, Downs stumbled across Elliott's personal belongings and stumbled upon a big secret. It turned out that Elliott was not an aircraft designer at all, but an aircraft model designer! It is a myth that he can fix the plane! Downs was so angry that he pulled Elliott aside, pointed a pistol at his head, and angrily asked: "Liar! When everyone was in a desperate situation, you actually had the heart to deceive us, making us busy for more than ten days?" Unexpectedly, Elliott was very calm: "Yes, I am a liar. But if I hadn't lied then, would everyone be alive now? "

Downes was stunned. If he realized something, he slowly put down the pistol and never exposed this big lie again.

This is a plot in a Hollywood disaster movie. It doesn't really matter whether the story is true or not, but the truth contained in it is worth pondering. It is not scary to have deserts in the eyes, but the most terrifying thing is that there is no oasis in the heart, as Martin Luther King said: "We must accept disappointment because it is limited; but we must not lose hope because it is infinite."
