Haunted House: Part 1

There was a haunted house deep in the woods, and a mysterious man named Cyrus had rented it out for one night only. The name on the lease is something that can never be said again. It reads: “dragona.” It sounds like a character from some old black and white horror movie. He didn't like to think about what this place must have looked like when he rented it or whatever. All he wanted to do was get rid of the place as soon as possible. After he moved into this apartment, he'd been thinking about getting rid of the whole thing entirely. That wasn't happening though. Not when there's a ghost story going around and everyone keeps bringing him all kinds of weird things. It wouldn't help anyone if he gave up on his search because of his own fear.

He made his way through the dark forest, his flashlight lighting up the path in front of him. Everything looked normal enough at first. It was hard to believe there was a haunted house just beyond these trees. At least nothing seemed particularly wrong…

The moment he stepped outside, however, he knew it was different. Something was off, and it scared him even more. He heard a noise coming from behind him, but before he could react, he felt something cold and sticky cover his face. His scream died in his throat. There was no point anymore. As he collapsed onto the ground, he realized that something was indeed wrong. Someone or something was controlling his body, and it wasn't stopping anytime soon. He couldn't move anything, and he was completely helpless against whatever force that controlled him. When he turned around, there stood a man with long white hair. He wore a long white coat and carried a walking cane. He looked scary enough to scare the crap out of him. His face was pale, but there was no expression on it. There weren't any eyes. Or really anything else. Just pure emptiness. As he approached him, the man opened his mouth…

"I'll be taking your soul now."

Cyrus screamed as loud as he could. In his sleep, he woke up panting. The sound of a door slamming woke him up. He sat up quickly in bed, realizing where he was. The walls were white, and the ceiling, which was covered in posters of famous actors, looked like it was painted with snowflakes. He got out of bed, took his walkman earphones out of his ears, and put them back in his pocket. Then he headed to the kitchen, where he usually prepared breakfast before going to work. Today, though, was unusually busy. People were rushing everywhere, carrying boxes, putting stuff away, and yelling at each other. It was pretty chaotic, but they were all so busy they didn't notice him. It was actually kind of cute how busy they were with their jobs. It reminded him of how people were working when he lived here. He wondered if it still was the same and if it ever would be again. Maybe after everything that's happened? If he went back to live here, he could probably ask around and find out. It might help make this place feel less creepy than it actually was.

When breakfast was ready, Cyrus put the food in the microwave for 30 minutes. This way, the food would stay warm and taste good. After he set the timer on his phone, he took his walkman out of his pocket and placed it on the counter beside his laptop. Then he started editing the video he had filmed a couple of days ago, a video about different haunted houses. Normally, he wouldn't film while he was awake, but since everything has changed now, maybe he should try it. Even if someone finds out about this, there's nothing I can do about it. Well, that's what he thought, but then a familiar voice called his name.

To be continued…
