It was a cheerful day.

Really, it was.

A special occasion at that.

The kids laughed and ran around, the adults sat and chatted away, and the weather was warm, but had a nice breeze along with it.

They had been celebrating the birthday of Donnie, the son of a couple that had been longtime residents of the small, suburban town.

"Okay, guys, who wants cake!" his mother called.

"Me!"

"I do, I do!"

"Yaaay, cake!"

The kids, Donnie included, raced over to the table outdoors, where the cake was now lit up and a pile of still wrapped presents were waiting to be opened.

"Okay, ready?" his father asked.

"Yeah, I'm ready!" little Donnie hopped up and down.

"~Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Donnie, happy birthday to you~!" everyone sang.

As Donnie blew out the candles, everyone cheered and clapped.

"Okay everyone, grab your plates!" his mother called out.

As she served the kids pieces of cake, the other adults poured themselves more drinks and the kids ate and messed around. Soon after, the adults served themselves cake and were also conversing amongst each other. After they sat and socialized some more, Donnie's mother called everyone over to watch as her now ten-year-old son opened his gifts. But the moment they got up, she knew something was wrong. For once, her little boy's face had a greenish pallor to it, and his face broke out in a sweat.

"Momma, I don't feel good."

She immediately put her hand on his forehead to see if he had a temperature. The other kids groaned in pain as well, and the other parents immediately rushed over to their own child.

"Donnie honey, what's going on?" his mother frantically asked.

Before he could answer, retching sounds were heard. She turned to see most of the kids were now vomiting all over the area. Turning, she saw her son was now doing the same. As she went to rub his back, she felt as if her heart was going to burst. Dropping to her knees, she heard the blood moving through her ears, and the pain moved throughout her whole body. Forcing herself to turn, she was met with an even more disturbing sight.

All the kids and adults were now dead, lying in various puddles of bloody vomit. The scene alone was enough to make the woman herself get sick until she coukd no longer hold on herself.

All was silent.

The gifts were still wrapped, the ballons and decorations were still up, and the rancid smell was polluting the air.

Amongts the disgusting scene, a chuckle could be heard. This man hadn't eaten any of the cake, and was the lucky one.

Laura, Laura, Laura...I knew Donnie wasn't my son. Did you think you could hide the paternity test from me?

I always find out.
