Chocolate Cake is the Answer

What is chocolate cake?

Something so simple and yet tremendously complex: flour, eggs, baking powder, vanilla, sugar, and chocolate with layers of alternating whipped cream and chocolate with more cream. Almost anything could be added to this delicate treat to make it the most luxurious thing on the planet.

Every year as a kid, you can barely sleep the night before your birthday. Your mom asks what kind of cake you want, and your answer is always, "chocolate cake". You are excited about your party, your presents, your friends, and your birthday cake. You know that as soon as that cake is in front of you, you only have a few seconds to make a wish and blow out those candles to make it come true. As soon as the candles are taken out, you feast on as much cake as you want, or at least as much as your mom will let you and then you return to the rest of your party's festivities.

A few years down the road, you still ask your mom for chocolate cake on your birthdays, but now you ask for it more often as your body changes and craves something sweet to satisfy that hunger. You know what it means, each month when the craving for chocolate cake comes up. Unique twists and turns occur to your person, charm, interests, and styles, but one thing remains the same: your appetite for chocolate cake. Your very own venture into womanhood along with the unknown of what that entails.

In that unknown, you go on your first date. Nervous and anxious but happy and excited. You are taken to a restaurant and you flip through the menu pages and find "chocolate cake… $9". Suddenly, your nerves settle a bit, allowing you to enjoy your meal and when the waiter asks about dessert, you reply with a smile, "I'll have the chocolate cake". Not sure if he will kiss you at the end of this date or if you will take charge and kiss him first, you eat that cake to help make you brave in the endeavors to come and hope that it is as sweet.

Skip a few years, knowing that chocolate cake is always there, through good and bad, happy and sad, you are an adult now. You have had your fair share of chocolate cake and you know how sweet and how bitter it can be on your tongue. You felt the heat, the passion, the obsession, and the lust from it's effects. Somehow, in all of that chaos, you have found love. Sometimes, it is as simple as a kiss. Sometimes, it is as complicated as an unforgettable night with wine, candle light, dinner, and chocolate cake. The desire for it never leaves your lips.

A lifetime of events and memories pass as that chocolate cake remains constant.
