“Gather around the fire everyone” exclaimed Kat.

All the camp kids gathered around with sticks in hand ready for the counselor Kat to give them marshmallows. The excitement of little chatter fills the air.

“Alright guys your in for a treat tonight, counselor Dylan has a scary story for us tonight. He should be joining us shortly after he’s done with clean up from the mess hall”

All the little kids say “oooooo”

The littlest boy in glasses and a faded yellow Camp Waca-Waca shirt pushes his glasses up and asks

“What kind of scary story?, on the count of I’m a little bit scared already being up past my bed time”

Kat laughs and taps him on the nose “Don’t worry Gunther I’ll make sure your safe.”

Blushing Gunther giggles and and the other kids laugh. As they were sitting around the campfire they hear a rustling in the woods.

“What is that?” says one kid to the other.

“SHHH, SHHH i hear something” whispers another.

“I Heard it too, Shhh!” said Kat

As they became silent they listened all you can hear now is the sound of crickets, the fire crackling and the frogs by the lake croaking. They look all around and they waited for what felt like forever before they heard it again.

“Oh My God!, i heard that it sounded like it’s coming from other there!”

Gunther said loudly whispering pointing at the darkness behind Kat.

Kat goes to turn around and walk a ways back to see if she can identify the noise. All the sudden the kids see a dark figure dart towards Kat. Everyone screams “AHHHH!!”

“Got cha said a voice”

“Dylan?” asked Kat in a confused voice.

“You jerk!” you scared us shouted Kat.

Dylan laughing and holding his stomach

“I’m sorry- that was-- to funny-- i couldn’t help myself”

Kat finally composed her nerves enough to pass out marshmallows to the camp kids.

“Are you ready to grace us with your story? We’ve only been waiting light years for it” says Kat in a sarcastic tone.

“yea you guys ready” Dylan says looking at the campers.

“Yeaaahh!” shouted the kids.

Okay Dylan grabs a hand full of dust out of his pocket, throws it in the air and over the fire and says

“Submitted for the approval of the Camp Fire Tales i give you the story of the Monster Lake”

Dylan starts the story: “Back in the day this camp in early 50’s was a resort for families to come on vacation and unwind. It was nice, there were water slides, shuffle board, they had a restaurant with a dance floor an open bar. It even had a small roller coaster. They had an RV camp up cliff side where you can jump in from the lake off the cliff. My parents use to tell me all about the fun they used to have up here and that’s how they met. But they ended up shutting down after people started going missing. But not before....”

Dylan pauses dramatically to build up the tension.

“Before what?” asks one of the campers

Dylan takes a deep breath and started “One rainy day, it was the end of the summer and as one of the families staying at the RV park was loading up their camper. A staff member checks the ground and informs the family they had to get going since the grounds were locking up for the season. It was raining really bad that day and it was barely visible. They were the last RV there. And a family of six. Husband, wife, her three kids and the kid’s grandmother and their dog. They were all ready to go until they realized they had left the dog tent behind. The husband quickly got out to get it, so not to hear his wife nag about buying another one. When he got out the dog ran behind him knocking the RV out of park into neutral.”

Dylan pauses again, looks at Kat and says

“Pass me a marshmallow”

Kat throws the bag at him “Finish the story, its getting late” Kat replies with an eager tone.

“Fine, Fine, you know i like to be dramatic - chuckling- it makes the ending that much better” said Dylan

Gunther squeals “what happened after the man got out of the RV”

“Oh right -chuckles- getting back to the story.... Anyways...

After the husband grabs the tent he turns around to look back to see the RV rolling backwards. The husband shouting to his wife ‘GET OUT, GET OUT OF THE RV’ he continues to yell her name while running up to the RV to try to stop it. But his voice was drowned out by the loud pitter patter of rain, and thunder. He manages to grab on to the door and throws all his weight back in efforts to try to stop the rolling RV. His feet dragging in the dirt while he tries tirelessly to stop the RV.

Finally the RV stops, catches on the cliff edge, there it was teetering on the edge the man thought he caught a break, the man yells out to his family, still in shock and still screaming in fear of falling to slowly come out. You could hear the wife crying saying ‘be careful baby daddy will get you’. The youngest of the three kids made his way to the door crawling, he was almost freed until the cliff edge gave out an the RV goes plunging down into the deep waters of the lake”

Deep GLOOMP-SPLASH noise is heard through the thunder and rain.

“gasps” from the children

Dylan continues “the husband in shock watched how fast the RV was sinking, stricken with grief he jumped in after the RV in efforts to try to save his family. He swam down but never came back up. The the staff member checks the grounds again the family was gone or so he thought. Next summer when the grounds opened up again, the staff was checking the water and the grounds he noticed that there was an a key with a tag floating on the top of the lake. He fished it out and the tag said Watts on it.

“That’s it?” said Gunther

“That wasn’t scary at all, its all based on a fake story’”

Dylan slyly says “oh yea? That’s what i thought until two summers they drained the lake- And found an RV! The bodies of a family were still inside and a man was found pinned under the door of the RV. That family is set to haunt the lake and the surrounding woods. People hear voices by the dock at night, they hear splashing in the lake but when they look theirs no one there, and over 5 people have gone missing since they fished the RV out of the lake"

Last place anyone seen those missing people they were last seen swimming in the lake. And if your brave enough to be alone on the cliff side of the RV park you can hear what sounds that sound like screams of the family that died and the missing people. And if your really quite you can hear the husband saying -

Dylan pauses and then in a deep gruff voice shouts ‘GET OUTTTT!”

The kids scream and one gets up and says in a nervous tone “Well time for bed”

Some of the kids get up and take off running to the cabins, Kat then stands up and looks at her watch and says “your right, lets gather our things so i can walk you guys back to the cabin. Say thank you and good night to Dylan.

The kids in unison “Good Night Dylan”

Kat and the campers head off to the cabin’s. Dylan sits there roasting some marshmallows. It was quite, so quite that after a while of silence Dylan notices that there’s a rustling by the trees. As Dylan looks for the source of noise it stops. And suddenly a dog appeared.

Petting the dog. Dylan says “Hey buddy, you scared me, where’d you come from? The sandy blonde dog dirty an dingy, looked hungry so he gave him a marshmellow. Still petting the dog, he sees a tag for it, he reads it and it says :

Max Watts, confused at the coincidence, he starts to stand up to put the fire out and head back to camp. As he pours the water over the fire he hears in a deep dark eerie voice “GOT CHA!”
