“Just one more spoon, promise”: LaSalle Caribbean is the heart of Lasalle. They offer more than a well-priced and good meal; they have been part of the community for longer than 1990; what? I cannot remember. Being a child born and raised in the income housing units five minutes away, young JAF and her neighborhood friends would hustle for change to get a patty. Yes, patty before Candy, please. I know many of you reading can remember the “I need change to call home?” lie. Terrible on our end; we used that line so much I am surprised we still have our teeth. That lie, however, burst our taste buds and brought us to a very family-oriented business with great music, service, conversation, and at one point in a once upon a time club feeling type of atmosphere. What DO you mean club? JAF’s Jamaican parents embraced their culture: Her father, born in Canada but raised in Jamaica with his grandparents, was the former president of the black association of Lasalle and would often bring her and her little brother for roti’s on ‘take out’ night. Lasalle Caribbean was and is the GOAT, and the IRONY of my father loving off their goat roti just brought forth the association, ‘they are the closes thing to a Jamaican grandma’s kitchen.’ Lasalle Caribbean is food for the soul.

The expression food for the soul originated in the mid-1960s, according to research, when “soul” was a common word used to describe the African American culture. Lasalle Caribbean’s importance in delivering culture to their clientele enables me to give them five stars. No, they do not have a valet service to take my car keys or chandeliers over a glass table that overlooks the ocean, with a waiter that leaves you dreaming for days because of his eyes, but they do have food that touches your heart and soul. It is a home away from home; they should say welcome to grandma’s house every time you call. They provide an atmosphere that makes you hungry: it’s the smells, the love, the music, the laughter, the colors, the overall my family is giving to your family that make Lasalle Caribbean the family of Lasalle cuisine. They are meeting the hunger needs of all meat-eaters, vegetarians, and hungry, hungry individuals. I would strongly recommend any outsider or local to visit this restaurant at least once. I have never heard any complaints on this location, and this has been a hot spot since I was a snotty nose brat hustling quarters for a patty with my friends.

Vivre Lasalle Caribbean: The home-style restaurant that not only embraces the food they sell but embraces the overall well-being of their clientele; overall, they leave you feeling welcomed with service and taste that remains persistent. The customer always leaves with a smile, and fun fact, if you did not like dancing, you will once you go.

Lasalle Caribbean is also involved in the party and events community, and upon arrival, flyers on local events are available. I call this an essential mention because they take part in the growth of their community. They are stimulating our bellies and mind while also giving back. Are they giving back? What do I mean? My former partner and I had gone to this restaurant many moons ago. I was a teenager-years-old, and we were short $20. Most restaurants would refuse to sell you the food, NOT at Lasalle Caribbean. Is it because I have been going for years? I don’t know, but I know they allowed us to eat and return the money the following day. The gesture may seem irrelevant to why one should eat there; this gesture shows that they provide fresh out of grandma’s kitchen cuisine and seek to maximize the well-being of their clientele and create a family-friendly atmosphere for the old and the newer generations to come.
