Keto Friendly Drinks That Won't Leave You Thirsty
Not Just Water
Feeling thirsty after starting the keto diet? It's important to stay hydrated if you are going to keep on the ketogenic diet. Staying well hydrated is important even when you're not dieting. Drinking plenty of water helps but, is water all you're supposed to drink to stay hydrated, especially on those hot summer days while at the beach or vacationing? I think not!
It's true our bodies need water to stay hydrated and to replenish, but, if you're on the keto diet, there's other drinks that will keep you fresh and feeling good besides water. Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that you cut water out of your diet, just add other replenishing drinks to the keto diet as well. What drinks you might ask?
Tea and coffee are good choices, just leave out the sugar. If you must have sugar, consider an alternative like Splenda with fiber, or stevia. I cut sugar out completely and since doing so I feel great all the time. I occasionally use Splenda if I feel like I need to sweeten my coffee. I also add lime to my water, ( I don't care for lemon in my water). I also add mint leaves to my water to keep me hydrated and to give my water some flavor. Here's what you can do, fill a pitcher with 1 gallon water, add sliced lime and mint leaves and put in your refrigerator for about 3 hours. Now, it's ready to drink. You can also add a green tea bag to the limes and mint leaves to give your water even more flavor. I love my water this way and it tastes great.
Other options are an occasional glass of wine. Wine also has many health benefits like, lowering cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease, and helping to keep a little weight off. Another option is diet cola, but, only once in a while because even diet cola has some sugar and quite a few carbs. Any cola, even diet, can either kick you out of ketosis or prevents it for several days. The goal is to stay in ketosis for as long as you are on the keto diet. Just remember, drink alcohol in moderation. Beer should not be consumed on the keto diet, as beer is just like bread. It will put the pounds on, not take them off.
Sweeteners should actually not be consumed on the keto diet because it will keep you wanting those sweet treats. So, use sweetener in moderation, as with alcohol. If you can cut out sweeteners, sugar, and sodas in general while dieting, then, your waistline, hips, and stomach will thank you for it. Use of these items can kick you out of ketosis real quick, and that is not what you want.
So, if you are feeling thirsty on the keto diet just remember, drink plenty of water, of course. I use a filtering pitcher before making up my flavored water. It tastes so much better than drinking that stinky tap water. I put a green tea bag, 1 sliced lime, and a handful of mint leaves to my water to give it a refreshing flavor. I'm not a tea drinker but, I do love my coffee. I put non dairy creamer in it but no sugar. The taste takes a little getting used to but I finally got used to it.
Green tea is also another option. Green tea kicks up your metabolism so losing weight isn't so hard. It's especially hard losing weight after child birth and after we hit our 40's and 50's. A person that is diabetic also run into these challenges. Being diabetic makes it hard for diabetics to lose weight so they just give up. They don't have to if they implement what I wrote here today. I hope this article helped you in your ketogenic journey. Enjoy!
