Detective Dawg and the Missing Apple

The best and most apt way to describe “Bryan Ridenours” children's book “ Detective Dawg and the Missing Apple.” is undeniably sweet. I sustained a pleasantly heart-filled grin during my entire read-through. Happiness was abundant as I swiped through this e-book. Excellent imagery, cute delightfully unique characters brought the book to life in its only short, very detailed, easy to read eleven pages. I was delightfully surprised when I was able to pick this book up from Amazon for right to my tablet or e-reader. Being that it is digitally available is an absolute plus: especially for parents looking to pick up a quality read for their young ones.

About the author:

Bryan Ridenour was born in 1971, and at an early age developed a love for reading and creating short stories. Today, married, and a father to six, he still enjoys weaving a good yarn for his kids. His favorite to date is "Detective Dawg and the Missing Apple.; He hopes to write other books about these barnyard characters, creating a series. Currently, his fifteen year old son creates the artwork”

The book sees the main character Detective Dawg, a Basset hound with an intent to solve the barn’s biggest mysteries. Dawg and his barnyard friends, a cast of characters with their own lively personalities, try to solve the case of the missing apple. This book has the essence of a true mystery novel with ups and downs of drawing close to solving the case only to be thrown a twist. It has the usual ensemble of unusual cold case characters showcasing their unique individual personas from the observant pond duck to the wise, slick tempered, house cat.

I was so enthralled by its mystery I skirted through hoping to get to the next page to see what Dawg uncovers. All the while I tried to internally solve the case myself. This is a tell-tale sign of an excellent read when a book intended for children can keep an adult like me itching for a conclusion. This is all neatly wrapped in a heartwarming children's tale. Beneath the clean packaging is a hefty lesson for kids of all ages and adults alike.

What struck me most about this book aside from its indisputable engagement was its ability to deliver a very poignant and much needed message.

The story dives into the morality of second chances, forgiveness, and the indistinguishable instinct to care for one another, even if sometimes we forget how, this children's book is a great reminder that we can. Me and many readers alike share the same consensus. This became extremely evident when a multitude of five-star reviews on amazon divulged the same feelings. one of the many said the following:

“This is a wonderful book! The writer brings you directly to a farm where Detective Dawg and his crew of crime fighters pull together to solve the mystery. It is descriptive and easy to visualize, with a godly message for all who read it. I believe it would be a great story for all children.”

I can easily see this in a classroom being read to young children with the intent to learn about particular human values. We can all take a page from this book. both children and adults. Oddly enough this story about barn animals is an allegory for the human condition. Short, sweet, and full of meaning. I would recommend this for kids of all ages, and the parents that read it to them.
