You also thought about this question in your math class. Right?

This blog is inspired by 👇 a quotation.

“Don’t let schooling interfere with your education” by Mark Twain

We all have studied quadratic equations. Sorry for my mistake, we did not study but in reality, most of us have just practiced solving quadratic equations in schools, colleges, or even in some basic math courses at the university level. Right?

Let’s recall, if I ask you to solve the following type of equation:

ax²+bx+c=0

Then, Your brain will start to sing (Quad song) 👇

I call the Quadratic formula (Quad Song) Let’s sing it!

“X equals to minus b plus-minus under root b square minus 4 ac upon 2 a”

Or you may use either of these 2 👇methods

  1. Factoring
  2. Completing the square

Now the key question is that after finding these values of x what did we achieve?. And I am sure that you or your class fellow must have discussed any one of the following questions during or after a boring math lecture.

1) What’s the use of Quadratic Equations/Math topics in our day to day life?

2) Are we ever gonna use math in our life?

3) Is math just about memorizing formulas and finding unknown values of variables?

Let’s explore and observe the surroundings to get a better understanding of the above questions!

Discovering Quadratic Equation Graph in Nature

Have you ever contemplated (look thoughtfully) on some of the shapes in our surroundings that resemble the graph of a quadratic equation?

One of the Graphs of Quadratic Equations looks like👇

This blue curve shape is known as a parabola.

I wonder if shapes like parabolas of the quadratic equations often appear in nature. So there must be some use of it. The parabolic shape has many important applications and they are frequently used in the areas of physics, engineering, sports, and I guess many other areas as well, that we haven’t discovered yet!

Check this out 👉 Quadratic Equation Graph Explorer

Here you can play by changing values of a, b, c to see what the graph of the quadratic equation looks like.

Now let’s get back to our main objective to discover:

Parabolic shapes in real life

1) Sports

In Sports games like Cricket, Football, Baseball, Basketball, Badminton you must have seen that parabolic curve when a batsman hits a six, or if a football player passes the long ball to the striker, or when a basketball player gets the ball through the basket.

2) Design of Bridges

The cables that act as the suspension on the Golden Gate Bridge and many other bridge shapes are parabolic.

Isn’t it fascinating the application of the parabolic/Quadratic equation?

3) Space Science

In Spaceflight when a Rocket is launched, it also follows a parabolic path. And the satellite dish that is designed to receive and transmit information by radio waves also has a parabolic type of shape.

One of my favorite examples of a parabola 👇

Hence, Parabolas are everywhere!

Examples of Real World Problems Solved using Quadratic Equations 👇

Before writing this blog, I thought to explain real-world problems that can be solved using quadratic equations in my own words but it would take some amount of effort and time to organize and structure content, images, visualization stuff. So to reduce the time, I would like to share a very interesting and useful website to learn about examples of real-world problems solved using quadratic equation 👇

Real-World Examples of Quadratic equations

In the above site, you will learn about the use of quadratic equations in multiple domains like Sports, Business, Physics.

The best source to learn math in a fun way 👇

Math is fun and is a great way to learn basic math concepts in Algebra, Geometry, and many other topics. This site teaches in a very easy, fun, and enjoyable manner.

Conclusion

I wonder if a single parabolic shape has so many applications in our surroundings, so there must be other applications of different shapes!

Now it’s time to explore!

Thank you very much for your time!
