There are many ancient sites on the planet that are famous for vortexes including the Great Pyramid in Egypt, Machu Picchu in Peru, Bali, Stonehenge, Uluru/Ayers Rock in Australia, and Sedona in Arizona. The website visitsedona.com describes a vortex as follows: "Sedona vortexes (the proper grammatical form ‘vortices’ is rarely used) are thought to be swirling centers of energy that are conducive to healing, meditation and self-exploration. These are places where the earth seems especially alive with energy."

It is a popular destination for those seeking healing (it is known to improve overall wellness), enlightenment, or those who are drawn by the rumors that it is a portal to commune with terrestrial and celestial spirits.

In an interview with thrillist.com, this is what Mike Koopsen of L'Auberge de Sedona had to say: "Each person experiences a vortex differently. He suggests sitting quietly and taking deep breaths, visualizing something meaningful or relaxing, and, most of all, being open to the experience and if that doesn't help then he suggests doing this: “Relax and let the awesome beauty of the area inspire you."

There are four hotspots in Sedona where the energy is said to be the most intense and these include the vortexes at Airport Mesa, Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, and Boynton Canyon. These vortexes, which are located among scenic red formations, have been categorized as masculine energy and feminine energy based on whether the energy is entering or leaving the earth. Sometimes it can be both.

This is an excerpt from an article published in travelawaits.com that further explains upflow and inflow sites: Upflow spots — found at mountaintops, mesas, or scenic overlooks — are locations where the energy is flowing upward out of the earth and are said to create positive, uplifting, and rejuvenating sensations.

Inflow sites feature energy flowing inward to the earth and are typically found in canyons, caves, valleys, and low-lying areas. The inflow sites are known to have a calming effect and are good spots for introspection and meditation.

The article goes on to provide more details about the four major vortexes:

Boynton Canyon: A site that is a combination of inflow/outflow, a visitor can enjoy awesome views of red rock buttes and the forested box canyon.

Sedona Airport Loop: Close to the airport, this trail goes around the Table Top mesa and offers great red rock views.

Bell Rock : This is a 3.6 mile pathway that offers close-up views of the bell shaped butte.

Cathedral Rock: This is how the article describes it -"the iconic grouping of rock buttes and spires are seen all over Sedona. To take in the vortexes, Visit Sedona suggests either the saddle of Cathedral Rock for an upflow/inflow combination or the inflow spot at the Red Rock Crossing."

Even though the Sedona Vortex is open year-round, it is most popular during the spring to fall season. Those who are visiting in the summer are requested to be complete their tours by midday due to the hot temperatures.

Although tours and individual guides are present for the visitors who come from near and far to experience this mysterious energy, the Sedona Vortex is easy to navigate thanks to the maps and other resources available at the visitor center. For those who prefer to travel to the vortexes by jeeps, various four-wheel tours like the Earth Wisdom Jeep Tours are availabe.

Visitors are asked to come with an open mind in order to enjoy the full benefits of the experience.
