Water resources were present at the beginning of the formation of the Earth, when heaven and earth collided, brought by the outside world, or brought by comets long after the formation of the Earth.

This is also the "endogenous theory" and "exogenous theory" about the Earth's water resources. The scientific community has been debating this for hundreds of years, and there is no unified opinion. But there is a unified opinion about the Earth's water resources, that is, the total amount of water resources on Earth is not changing.

But some recent research has scientists suddenly feeling bad. There is one of the deepest places on Earth, called the Marianas Trench, which is more than 10,000 meters deep. This trench is the result of a collision between the Eurasian and Pacific tectonic plates.

The final collision process continues, which is the reason why earthquakes often occur in Japan, where the two plates are only 200 km apart. To study the collision, scientists have placed many seismometers on the Marianas Trench to monitor the collision process of the two plates and collect first-hand data.

However, in the process of monitoring the plate movement, scientists found that the speed of seismic waves began to slow down 30 km underground, at the crack between the two plates. For this anomaly, at first, scientists were puzzled as to what caused the slowing of the seismic waves.

Then they built a data model and found that there was only one possibility for this to happen, and that was that water was flowing 30 kilometers underground. Then the model calculations revealed that in a million years, the Marianas Trench swallowed 300 trillion tons of seawater, which means that until now, the amount of seawater swallowed per year is 3 billion tons.

This swallowed seawater, except for special cases, will always be stored inside the earth, and will only return to the surface along with the cracks that the magma washes away until the volcanic eruption.

Some scientists estimate that the Earth's water resources have decreased by at least 2/3 from their peak, which means that the Earth's water resources have decreased the most in billions of years.

Conclusion: The current water storage in West Lake is more than 14.5 million tons, while the Marianas Trench swallows 3 billion tons of seawater every year. By simple conversion, it can be calculated as more than 200 times the water capacity of West Lake, which means more than 200 West Lakes a year.
