Husband Hires Man to Rape His Wife

Man says it was part of a rape fantasy

Russell Higgins paid a homeless drug addict $200 to rape his wife. He picked the man up in a nearby city, driving him back to the home he shared with his wife. The pair waited on Higgins's wife in a darkened bedroom. When she arrived, Higgins directed the man on what to do to his wife and watched as it took place. The homeless man told police that Higgins said it was part of their “rape fantasy.” Both men received lengthy prison sentences for this disgusting act, long enough neither will likely never again step foot outside the prison.

Story-

In March 2016, Tehachapi, California, police responded to reports of an accident at the home of 48-year-old Russell Higgins and his wife. When officers arrived at the residence, they quickly learned the events that had unfolded just moments earlier inside the home were not accidental.

The unnamed wife told police an alarming story. She told them that she came home to find her husband and another man standing in her bedroom. The lights were out. This was strange but the men attacked her before she could react. Higgins and the man tied up the victim. Under direction from Higgins, the man raped the victim. Higgins stood back and watched, even giving the man pointers.

The victim bit her husband’s hand during the attack and attempted to get away. He told her to stop resisting the rape or it would be “very bad” for her, threatening her life as well as that of their kids and grandchildren. She stopped resisting.

When the man finished raping her, Higgins ordered her to the bathroom to shower. The victim went into the bathroom and wet her hair but did not shower in order to preserve DNA and physical evidence of the attack.

After giving police this statement, the victim handed them Higgins's phone, telling them it was filled with rape-themed pornography.

Investigators Track Leads

Investigators eventually tracked down a man in Bakersfield in an area known for prostitution, drugs, and street crime. They found a man named Haliki Green, a homeless drug addict who told them Higgins hired homeless men to come to have sex with his wife at their home.

He later confessed that Higgins paid him $200 to rape his wife and as a “homeless drug addict,” that was a large sum of money to him. He stated he thought it was part of the couple’s “fantasy” and did not think he actually raped the woman. He told police that he had known Higgins “for years” because the man often visited the Union Street area where the homeless hung out. He went on to say that Higgins smoked crack the rest of the evening after the attack.

Police are not sure if Higgins frequented the area or if the story was made up by Green. Regardless, DNA matched the victim, so police knew at least one statement he provided was truthful.

Convictions & Sentencing

Higgins had one prior criminal conviction on his record, a 1985 conviction for sexual assault. He was found guilty of rape and false imprisonment and several other charges. He was sentenced to 53-years to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole in March 2041.

Information concerning Green’s criminal history is not available. The judge nor jury believed Green’s story of believing the rape was part of the couple’s fantasies. He was convicted and sentenced to 59-years to life in prison. He currently serves his time at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility. Green will be eligible for parole in March 2041.
