In 2018, a creepy clown who entertained sick children at a hospital dressed up in his usual attire of a red nose and painted white face before butchering his ex-girlfriend in front of her three children while streaming the event on Facebook Live. Making this crime even sicker, the man had a “sidekick” who cheered him on as he killed the woman.

Police took Kevin Lapeire, 31, and his sidekick Dietwin Haegheman, 38, into custody after Facebook viewers notified Belgian authorities of the live recording. Police say Lapeire talked Haegheman into helping him with the murder as a way to get revenge on his ex.

Lapeire can be heard saying in the video, “I’m a monster, I know that,” before he erupts in laughter. He then calls the kid’s school saying they would be late.

Speaking to the kids during the brutal murder, Lapeire said, “I’m no longer a clinic clown but a crimiclown. That’s how I will become famous.”

Children Found “Tied Up”

Police found the woman's 12, 15, and 17-year-old children tied up in the garage of the home in Oudenburg, near Ostend, Belgium. The children told police Lapeire forced them to watch as he chopped up their mother.

Lapeire Flees, Stand-Off With Police

After the murder, Lapeire fled to a home in the nearby town of Bredene where he climbed atop the roof of a 13-story block of flats and began firing a gun into the air. He also threatened to jump from the building and threw debris, including a gas bottle, onto the ground on the people who watched from below.

After an hours-long standoff with police, snipers managed to pin Lapeire down and he eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

Police took Haegheman into custody later that day.

Haegheman

A Beloved Clown

Before his arrest, Lapeire was one of only five professional clowns in Belgium. He was a proud clown who loved to entertain children. He was named “Best Clown in Benelux” in 2011, winning the honor because he “raises a big smile.” Kids loved the clown, and he did put smiles on their faces.

Doctor Aspirin & The Professional Yodeler

Lapeire and the woman -identified only as Caroline D.- had recently split due to the volatile relationship he had with her children. None of the kids liked the man and they did not get along. Lapeire was known by the clown names Clown Tobi and Doctor Aspirin. He once appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.

Haegheman was a professional yodeler who was known as Dietwin de Jodelaar before his arrest. He was a minor celebrity in Belgium, well-known to many people around the country.
