A strange incident in the Caribbean Premier League game between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots has grabbed eyeballs on social media.

In the final over of Guyana’s innings, Mohammad Hafeez was caught taking an early advantage at the non-striker’s end. Dwayne Bravo, the bowler for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, stopped in his tracks to turn around and glance at Hafeez.

Highest wicket-taker, entertainer, and three times champion in the CPL- need we say more? DJ Bravo, who was also an integral part of Windies’ T20I title triumphs in 2012 and 2016, is undoubtedly one of the best players in the shortest form of the game.

While a run out at the non-striker’s end was the expected move, Bravo showed an act of sportsmanship, instead fist bumping Hafeez and sharing a hug and a laugh with the veteran Pakistan all-rounder.

Hafeez had indeed been backing up too far and was way out of his crease when Bravo stopped in his tracks to give a warning, but instead ended up sharing a lighter moment with the overseas star. There was no mercy shown with the bat by Hafeez, though, once he got on strike, bashing Bravo for back-to-back boundaries off the fourth and fifth balls of the over.

Watch the Bravo Hafeez mankad incident here:

Guyana Amazon Warriors made 146/8 batting first with Hafeez, who walked in at No.6, unbeaten on 38 off 31 balls. 10 of those runs came after Bravo caught him backing up too far at the non-striker’s end.

Notably, in 2019, Hafeez had declined an opportunity to mankad Joe Root in an ODI, asking the non-striker to slide his bat in and stay grounded as a warning.

Bravo, on the other hand, was caught trying to steal more than a fair share of inches at the non-striker’s end for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL earlier in the 2021 season in April.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2021 has already kicked off and with just five matches so far, fans have already witnessed some thrillers and power-hitting skills of various batsmen.

The fifth match of the CPL 2021 is currently taking place between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts and ‘ Champion’ Dwayne Bravo showed great sportsmanship to steal the limelight of the show.

Dwayne Bravo shows great sportsmanship and does not Mankad Mohammed Hafeez

Opting to bat first, Nicholas Pooran-led side posted a decent total of 146 runs on the board with Chandrapaul Hemraj and Mohammad Hafeez top-scoring with 39 and 38* respectively.

During the course of Guyana’s innings, Dwayne Bravo, who was bowling, won the heart of every cricket fan as he despite having a chance to Mankad well-set Mohammad Hafeez, who was unbeaten at 28 runs, did not opt for such kind of dismissal and showed great sportsmanship.

It was during the last over of the innings, when Dwayne Bravo stopped in the middle of his bowling action after he found Hafeez out his crease. He instead of mankading the right-handed batsman was seen having a light moment with him and hugging him.

Bravo made his mark in international cricket back in April 2004, in Windies’s One-Day International series v England at home. With 40 Test appearances and 164 ODIs under his belt, the Trinidadian became a household name across the Caribbean with his all-round prowess. But the handy middle-order batsman, with his ability of sending the ball deep into the stands, and a variety of tricks in his kitty with the ball, soon became a name to reckon with in the shortest format of the game.

With franchise-cricket taking over the scene in the past decade or so, cricketers like Bravo have become instrumental for teams taking part in global T20 competitions around the world. Trinbago Knight Riders, T&T Red Steel, T&T, University of West Indies VC XI, The Windies, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Lions, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Sixers, Victoria, Essex, Kent, Winnipeg Hawks - the list of franchises and teams that have vied to have him in their ranks is endless.

Outside the cricket field, Bravo has made a name for himself with his penchant for music. His Champion song became a popular hit during Windies’ World T20 win in 2016, and various other singles - Chalo Chalo, We are the Kings, Run D world and more - makes Bravo’s fans around the world twirl to his tunes.
