The French have continued to inspire women around the world with their effortlessly chic style and fabulous beauty routines. I, like everyone else, have continued to live in awe of their beautiful skin and chic style. They forever look effortlessly flawless and I have been researching and reading every article I can find over the years. This research has led me to believe and enforce some simple and easy ways to incorporate that ’French Girl Chic’ into my own life.

One area I have been intrigued to learn more about was their hair, skin, and beauty routines as well as share some tips we could all easily put into action. In the name of beauty I have managed to to come up with simple and easy to follow tips so that we can all enjoy a little bit of chic.

Firstly and remember this… It’s all about the base! French girls pride themselves on an easy routine because their base is perfect. Therefore needing minimal effort. When I say base, I mean your skin. Before you have done anything to it, your skin should be flawless. This is one of the key parts to remember. When you have a perfect base everything else will fall into place. This is also probably the most time consuming part and definitely the part that will take the most thought and effort. Get to know your skin. What it likes and dislikes including food and what you put on it.

Tips for achieving the perfect base:

  • Drink plenty of water (at least 8 glasses a day) this keeps the skin clear and hydrated.
  • Always remove make up before bed
  • Use a day and night moisturiser always!
  • Use SPF every day to protect your skin from all harmful rays.

To go with their perfect base French girls have that tousled hair we would die for. I have personally researched this many times and generally come to the same conclusions. French girls are lazy and we need to be too.

  • Wash hair regularly (but not every day). Hair is always better the day after a wash.
  • Don’t use conditioner, just use a hair mask once a week. This avoids hair being to silky to do anything with.
  • Get regular hair cuts to avoid split ends. This helps keep hair looking strong and healthy.
  • For that beautifully tousled look tie into a chignon whilst hair is damp and allow to dry. This gives hair natural texture.
  • Don’t use a hair dryer or straighteners/curling tongs. Natural is always better and will keep your hair healthier.

With the above two things achieved, makeup is easy and less time consuming. When your base needs less attention and your hair is perfectly imperfect you don’t need to take as much time out of your day plastering on the make up.

  • Use a BB Cream or Tinted Moisturiser just to even out skin tone and create an even more flawless base.
  • You may not even need the above… In which case just add concealer to any areas that need it.
  • Only ever go for the eyes or the lips, never both!
  • Eyes: Eyeliner with a bit of a flick and lashings of mascara. Magnifique!
  • Lips: Choose a brighter colour that brightens the face. Red is always the first choice! Dab on with fingers so that it melts into the lips like a lip stain. Go for blue undertone red for cool skin tones and orange undertone reds for warm skin tones.

Keep your beauty routines effective and simple. That’s the French Girl way!
