As 2020 transitioned into 2021I made a decision regarding New Year's resolutions. I would make only one and work hard to fulfill it. The song Welcome Sweet Springtime came to mind. The first line is; "Welcome Sweet Springtime we greet thee in song." I decided to greet each day of the New Year with a song. Research indicates that singing can be very therapeutic and after 2020, I dare say everyone needs a little music therapy. The Carpenters had a hit with Sing a Song and the lyrics are self-explanatory.

Sing, Sing a song.

Sing out loud, sing out strong.

Sing of good things, not bad.

Sing of happy, not sad.

Sing, Sing a song.

Make it simple to last your whole life long.

Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear.

Just sing., Sing a song.

Earth, Wind, and Fire had a hit with Sing a song and they say it wil

make your day.

When you feel down and out

Sing a song (it'll make your day) yeah, yeah

You, it's the time to shout, oh now

Sing a song (it'll make a way) yeah

Sometimes it's hard to care

Sing a song (it'll make your day)

A smile so hard to bear

Sing a song (it'll make a way) yeah, oh no

Stimulates the immune system

Healthline reveals that listening to music lowered stress but there was an added benefit to singing along. Those who sang showed significantly higher levels of immunoglobulin A, which is an antibody the body secretes to help ward off infections.

Enhance memory

Assist in dealing with grief

Singing is a wonderful way to assist in healing from grief. Please keep in mind that not all songs will have the same effect. Music about murder, sorrow, and pain will only depress you. Consider the words of Sly and the Family Stone and find yourself some simple songs to sing.

I am determined to sing a song every day and to sing all through the day each day of this year. The recent siege on the White House and the new strain of the coronavirus have given me pause from making traditional resolutions but I can sing each day with ease. I am going to find music that makes me feel happy. One such song is Standing on the Top by the Temptations and featuring Rick James. All 7 men who at one time or another had been a part of this group were on the stage together along with James. Just imagine the egos, but they put their differences aside and this song showcases all 8 men. I love watching the Temptation's dance moves and their singing about funk. It's very different from the easy-listening tunes they gave the world during the "My Girl" era.

Whatever comes my way in 2021, I will greet it with a song from the time I wake until I go to sleep. I feel certain this will help me to have a better attitude.
