Artist Interview: KOMB
To kick off the Artist Interviews series I was lucky enough to get some answers from the man Karl Lane (a.k.a Komb). He’s a producer/composer/musical all-rounder with a love for everything from orchestral and classical music to post-rock and heavy metal.

So my name is Regi and I want to be a future rapper and producer not for no big label but to have my own label so I can help upcoming artists to come out and help them in needs. Most of the time I'm normally making beats and writing my lyrics but I mostly get my inspiration from Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, and many more. When I was a sophomore in high school one of my closets friend show me FL Studio. I was interested of making music but no one would give me the chance to make any songs with them. So for me when I want something I go out there and work hard for it. So I decided to make my own beats and that was when she show me FL, she was still learning but she mostly help me grow into a producer but not as a beat maker. After she show me until even now I have been getting a lot of calls from people who wants to make records with me but in the title of course I'm making my own beat tape by myself.

Kevin ClarkePublished 4 years ago in BeatLate Review: "This Love"
Music is often a reflection of us. With the idea of industry plants and copycats, some would say there are very few genuine artists out there.
George GomezPublished 4 years ago in BeatSay Its Name: The 90s
In case you were wondering, yes, the 90s were "All That". And I'm not just talking about the show. The 90s was a colorful era; a different kind of color compared to the 80s. I guess that's why we were blessed with "In Living Color". It was an era full of trendy fashion and new technology. It's an era that every 90s kid say they want to go back to. And more importantly, it was an era full of the greatest hits of all time. Every genre of music during this time was thriving; from pop to rock to hip hop and R&B. I believe a great era is defined by its music, which this decade definitely had. Of course the 70s, 80s, and even 2000s had their fair share of great music, however, in this case, the melodies of the 90s are what take it back for me. It's takes me back...ALRIGHT.

My sophomore year of high school was comprised of tears and late-night study sessions for tests that do not prepare for the real world. There were many nights where I would listen to playlists that I made to get through the endless night, and that is when I started to shift my focus on alternative music from the nineties. I had previously shown an interest in pop and R&B music in the nineties, but I never really broadened my options to other genres back then. So, my next thought was indie or alternative, and I listened to both because I am not selective about any kind of music except for heavy metal. That’s just not my cup of tea.
Perfect summer tunes
I believe that for the most of us music is an essential part of our lives. Creating a playlist is always a serious business, when it comes to perfect summer music, there is no time to kid around.

Every Dominican knows there is nothing better than dancing. And what is dancing without music? The Dominican Republic, mi tierra. My birthplace. The land that birthed merengue and other beautiful things like Bachata, mangu, sancocho, and of course - my favorite - my entire family.

Let me give it to you straight. Each decade reflects a turning point in society politically, fashionably, intellectually, technologically, you name it. You wanna know what happened in that decade? Well, skip the history lesson and plug that aux cord in. Every musical decade is known for something, but, only one decade is known for producing true trailblazing, show-stopping icons. Even now you have a person in your head from this decade. That’s right. The 80s all day. Now I was born in the 90s and to be honest, it is my personal favorite. However, I deserve to be arrested for negligence if I do not give credit where credit is due.

The ten years of music that mean a great deal to me and I feel really define my life so far fit into a slightly shifted “decade,” the 10 year period of 2007-2017. So late aughts, early “teen-aughts”? I don’t really know what to call that but you get the idea.
Shannon PopovPublished 4 years ago in BeatLooking At The Last Decade And The Resurgence of Outlaw Country
There are some decades where it’s easier to define it musically than others. When you think of the 60s the Beatles might come to mind, or the 70s might instantly make you think of Led Zeppelin.

I have the coolest dad in the world. Much of who I am today is because of the major role he plays in my life. It would only make sense that much of my taste in music was influenced heavily by this man, and his taste happens to be the 70s. The 70s would be the period where my dad was walking around, young stud in his early 20s; shirt buttoned down, chest hair showing, gold chain dangling with perfectly groomed messy hair much like our friend Neil below.
