Review of "The Beatles: Get Back" Part 1
I started watching Get Back with the absolute knowledge that The Beatles were and are one of the best things in my life, and easily THE best thing musically. For the past few years, I've listened to them about as much as to MSNBC on Sirius XM radio, which is to say, any and all the time I'm in the car driving by myself (see The Omnipotent Ear). Their arrival in the United States in 1964 coincided with my first serious girlfriend, Barbara (we met when she came to hear my doo-wop group sing at a Y on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx). By January 1969, the time we see the Beatles in the studio in Peter Jackson's The Beatles: Get Back, I was with Tina, who became my wife. We're still happily married, with wonderful children and grandchildren.

Monarchy In The UK seemed a good play on the Sex Pistols "Anarchy In The UK" for a vaguely British Royal Title based playlist. It's hardly ground-breaking but a bit if fun. There will be a hell of a lot that I miss off and where the artist is the one with the Royal title you will probably disagree with my choice, but you can easily make your own up and then share it with me. In fact I would love you to do that.
Mike Singleton - MikeydredPublished 2 years ago in BeatPizza For One
Vanwho, the independent bilingual musical project of Montréal based artist and singer-songwriter, Vanessa Boivin-Drolet, came onto the scene in 2009. She was seen on 3 episodes of ‘’The Voice’’ in Quebec in 2018 and was also a finalist on ‘’Faites comme chez vous’’ in 2015. She has played over 300 live shows in Canada, UK, Europe and the USA since day 1. Vanwho’s music is a fusion of refined folk & grunge accents, smoky vocals, masterful whistling and tasteful, unique guitar stylings. Contemplative, ethereal, intimate and dreamy; the songs of Vanwho invite the listener on a timeless journey, and focus on the importance of our collective impact on the present moment. Recently released .... Pizza For One is a folk song that evokes feelings of self-reflection and loneliness. With her raw emotion as the star of the track, the luscious harmonies and silky reverb guitar brings the listener through the wave of emotions of wishing to reunite with a loved one. Throughout the track you can feel Vanwho’s complete trust that love will never fade. And really… who has never eaten a whole pizza by themselves?
mysoundMusicPublished 2 years ago in BeatHow Stephen Sondheim Took Us Into The Woods AND Out Of The Woods
My social media feeds are blowing up with Sondheim quotes and I have no complaints, except one. A legend has died. I have to have a bit of perspective- he was 91. He was not known to be sick, and his death was sudden, but a death at 91 can only be considered so distressing to the general public. As a musical theatre fanatic, I'd love to have kept Sondheim on this earth until 150, but that would have been unrealistic.
Bonnie Joy SludikoffPublished 2 years ago in BeatReview: HBO's The Sex Lives Of College Girls Is Surprisingly Tasteful
HBO's New Series, The Sex Lives of College Girls is a playful romp with excellent writing, sex-positive plot points, and even some social change. It's not at all what I expected, and I'm pleasantly surprised.
Bonnie Joy SludikoffPublished 2 years ago in BeatFavorite (and Least Favorite) Christmas Songs
Right after Thanksgiving, or in some cases such as in stores and on overzealous radio stations, you begin to hear Christmas music fill the air. For each of us who celebrate the season, we have our favorite songs and we likely have some that we could do without as well. These are a few of the tunes I adore along with a couple I wouldn't mind tossing out of my musical lexicon.
Miss Prince
So what is this all about? Actually, it’s a personal review of one of my favourite albums., and a timely reminder that there is always great music around in the present as well as the past. Janelle Monáe's "Dirty Computer is a testament to that.
Mike Singleton - MikeydredPublished 2 years ago in BeatBeing Alive: Lyrics Speak Louder Than Words.
Stephen Sondheim's lyrics are a dictionary for human emotion. It's hard to explain the power of finding words that express what you have been feeling in a way that is so precise that you no longer feel alone, or lost, or irredeemable.
Amber GracePublished 2 years ago in BeatThe Red Planet - Rick Wakeman album review
With all due respect, I got to say that this album came like a breath of fresh air. After many non-appealing releases by Rick Wakeman, this one was well received. This is my 20th (I think; I need to check) from his vast collection of music. I know, I’m only scratching the surface, it’s just that some of his previous efforts are not that interesting to my musical taste. Maybe is great music, but not what I’m looking for.
Giovanni ProfetaPublished 2 years ago in BeatThe Bronze Buckaroo was not African American
When I first heard about The Bronze Buckaroo, the singing black cowboy, I envisioned someone who looked like Sherrif Bart (Clevon Little) from Blazing Saddles. I thought this individual would be a dark brown African American male but I was wrong. At first glance, I was certain that Herbert Jeffrey was white and I thought to myself "You have got to be kidding." This man was not bronze but what people considered to be "high yellow" which is what I have been called many times. The old saying that one drop of black blood deems a person as black was obviously true.
