Get Your Anime On: A Playlist for Your Workout
Nothing gets me fired up like anime openings
Anime is one of most exciting genres out there. It’s hype, it’s exciting, and there’s always tons of wild action to get your heart racing. Naturally, the music that goes along with it has to be just as energetic. If I’m going to work out, I want a song that pairs well with a character fighting giant monsters, or using their superpowers to fight off villains. If that doesn’t put you in the mindset to kick ass, then nothing will. So that’s exactly what I’ll do. When I need that hype music to make me feel like I too, can lift a car over my head, I blast some anime openings. These songs will keep you active and make you ready to smash that workout into the dust. I’ll highlight my eight favorites below, but I have the full playlist linked down below for your listening pleasure while you get those gains.
1 Polaris – Blue Encount
"Polaris" is from one of the most popular anime going at the moment, My Hero Academia. It’s the most recent opening, and it’s used to get us into the mindset of a huge fight with life or death consequences on the line. So, in short, this opening is legit. It’s a hard hitting and catchy rock song that just builds and builds as the song goes on. The way the chorus just explodes every time make me want to do some sit-ups, and I hate sit-ups. "Polaris" is a dynamic song that’s a great way to start any workout. You get to ease into it with a nice rock song, and immediately get moving when the song picks up steam.
2 RISE – CIRCUS
Rock music is the name of the game with this playlist and "RISE" is the perfect song to follow on the playlist. It also has some insane guitar melodies and a killer build up to the chorus. This is the first opening for The Rising of the Shield Hero. This is another action packed show with an equally action packed opening. It’s also easy to do your reps to the beat on this one, especially with that badass chorus. Did I mention there are rap verses in this song? Because there are, and they’re fire. This is a good song to run to, just don’t blame me if you start humming along while you’re running. What’s better Shield Hero has another high energy opening, "FAITH", which is also on this playlist in both its English and Japanese versions.
3 Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town – Chipmusic Heroes
If you asked me, this playlist could honestly just be a list of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure openings. This particular opening comes from the Diamond is Unbreakable season of JJBA, the section known for its energetic openings. Don’t worry, the other two are also on this playlist. All of them are high energy songs, but "Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town" is easily the one with the highest energy. This song is the equivalent of eating an entire pound bag of sugar in between gulps of espresso. It’s retro, it’s disco, it’s awesome. It starts at a 10 and never lets up. This is a good one to have towards the middle of the workout. When you feel like you’re ready to give up, the opening notes slap you across the face and give you the second wind to carry you through the hard prats of your exercise.
4 Kakusei – Superfly
Don’t let the brief piano opening fool you on this one. When "Kakusei" picks up, you’ll lose your mind. This song isn’t an opening, but it’s a popular song from the anime film Promare. Just to give you the basics of what’s going on during this song, the coolest freakin’ fiery dragon you’ve ever seen is going crazy on an entire city. The scene itself makes me stand up and headbang and go wild, so you can only imagine what it does for my energy levels during a workout. The guitar riffs are insane, the drums are strong, the whole thing is incredibly intense. It has a great rhythm to it as well, so no matter what’s on the line for your workout, it’ll energize you. Those scary planks? Don’t you worry. "Kakusei" will help you hold it for ten minutes.
5 Chouzetsu Dynamic – Kazuya Yoshii
"Chouzetsu Dynamic" is another fun rock song from another action packed show. This opening is the first from Dragon Ball Super, a show known for its incredible fight scenes. The show is full of great vibes, and the music is no different. This is a song with some light-hearted energy. It’s a smile in a rock song, and it’ll get you fired up for whatever workout routine you’ve got lined up for the day. This is also another great song that starts at a high with some catchy guitar riffs and keeps going at that volume the whole time.
6. Gurenge – LiSA
How about a badass song from an anime all about killing all sorts of crazy demons? I introduce you to "Gurenge", the opening from Demon Slayer. When you want to talk about great rock songs in anime, this is one of the best. The way the song just ramps up into the chorus alone makes it perfect workout material. The vocals on this one are also amazing. LISA is a great artist; her voice is powerful and will get you psyched up while you’re working out. It has the perfect balance of intense moments and slower moments to keep you going at 100%, and chances are it’ll get stuck in your head as well.
7. Ready To – Michiru Kagemori
This is one of the most exciting songs on the list, and it’s one that also maintains high energy levels the whole way through. This opening is from the anime BNA, probably one of the wildest and exciting shows out there right now. The music is vibrant, colorful, and peppy. It’ll keep you on your toes when you’re winded. "Ready To" is packed with all sorts of fun sounds and melodies for you to groove to, and it’s a must have for your workout.
8. Re: Re: - ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION
I ended it this list with another great rock song that’s sure to pump you up to workout. This is also the longest song on the list, and the beat it maintains throughout is probably the catchiest one on the list, in my opinion. You’ll be able to bang out your reps or run those miles with this song easily. "Re: Re:" is the opening for Erased, a song that’s renowned in the anime world for just how catchy and badass it is. Basically, you should be listening to this song whenever you need any kind of hype. I couldn’t finish off this list with anything better.
If you think those eight songs are awesome, then you’ll be happy to know I have a ton of other songs on this anime workout playlist. Anime songs are so full of hype and energy, and if you’re not hip to anime, you won’t know to look for them. Log in to Spotify and get to it. Hopefully this playlist can help motivate you during those intense workout hours!
