The Ocean's Daughter

My Muse often tells me my choice of music is weird, and she is not the only one. A lot of music, when I hear it, reminds me of her and brings me closer to her. Some of these songs make me think of her, and maybe she will listen and think my choice is not so weird after all.

If we all liked the same things life would be very boring and we would never learn anything from anyone. I learn so much from her and this is just a little story to connect us a little more.

Maybe you can do one for you and your Muse but you can share this too.

I have just realized that there are no female singers on this list, which has shocked me as a lot of songs have come into my head which will result in a second playlist for my Muse, but sure she will love both of these.

The YouTube playlist is here

Here we go

1: Canadee-I-O by Nic Jones

This is a beautiful story of love succeeding against adversity and I used it in my first Vocal Top Story which I wrote for my Muse. It has a lot of elements that she loves, especially the sea and the long ago feel to it. It is a beauty and you can read the story I wrote below.

2: Song To The Siren by Tim Buckley

Another song that contains so many marine and mythological elements which I know stir my Muse’s imagination. I actually recorded a version of this that I shared on my YouTube channel which you can see here but it’s the Tim Buckley and Cocteau Twins versions that are on the playlist. It has been recorded by Bryan Ferry and also by Rose Betts for Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” soundtrack.

3:Sweetest Thing by U2

U2 are responsible for so many great songs, this was originally a “B” side but it’s simple piano driven backing and words are just beautiful. U2 are great when they keep it simple. And the title is a perfect description of my feelings for my Muse.

4: Fields of Gold by Sting

Like U2 Sting has a lot of detractors, often for good reason, but he does write some gorgeous songs and this is one that you can sink into and not want to come out of, and that is something that I feel about my Muse.

5: Love Is A Rose by Neil Young

Many people have likened my singing to Neil Young and this is a simple love song that I record on my Youtube channel when recovering from the loss of the use of my left hand. Like all these I listen to them and my Muse comes to mind and I do know she loves this one.

6: "Für Elise" (or Bagatelle No. 25 in a minor) by Ludwig van Beethoven

What can I say about this, simple and beautiful and another that I know that my Muse loves.

7: She Belongs To Me by Bob Dylan

The words “She Got Everything She Needs, She’s An Artist, She Don’t Look Back” are ones that make me think of my Muse , another song that when I play it , she is there for me.

8: Can’t Get It Out of My Head - Electric Light Orchestra

From my favourite Electric Light Orchestra album and the opening lines:

“Midnight on the water.

I saw the ocean's daughter.

Walking on a wave she came

Staring as she called my name.

And I can't get it out of my head”

Are just perfect and you know who they call to my mind.

9:I Dreamed A Dream (From “Les Miserables) by Tom Ellis and Dennis Hasbert in Lucifer)

Lucifer is a wonderfully fun and top-class series but has a lot of dark moments and tender moments. This song is a favourite of my Muse and again when I hear it I think of her.

10: You’re So Cool (Main Theme From “True Romance”) - Hans Zimmer

While this is an almost straight lift of Carl Orff’s “Gassenhauer” as used in “Badlands” , it is a beautiful simple theme to my all-time favourite film. It gives me goosebumps and makes me feel totally in love.
