1. Tems
Star of the moment and one of my personal favorite singers today, Temilade Openiyi known popularly as Tems is the hitmaker behind such hit songs as Try Me, Mr Rebel, Crazy Tings, Free Mind, Essence, and more.
What many people may not know is that although Tems was born in Lagos, Nigeria to a Nigerian mother, she actually has a British-Nigerian father making her a half-British woman. Did you know that?
2. Seyi Shay
Another singer who has made quite the mark on the Nigerian music industry with hit Afrobeats songs such as Murda, Ragga Ragga, Irawo, Yolo Yolo, and more is Nigerian singer and Nigerian Idol judge, Seyi Shay.
Deborah Oluwaseyi Joshua known popularly as Seyi Shay was actually born and raised in Tottenham, London, England in 1985 to Nigerian parents (her mother is from the North and her father is from Ife). This means that Seyi Shay is a British woman by birth. Are you surprised?
3. Ayo Jay
Ayoola Ogundeyi Jr. popularly known in the music industry and to the world as Ayo Jay is a Nigerian singer who is popular for making such hit tracks as Your Number, Available, Corect G, The Vibe, Peace of Mind and more.
What many people may not know is that Ayo Jay was actually born in the United Kingdom. He is an English-born Nigerian singer and his citizenship is Nigerian-British. Did you know that about Ayo Jay?
4. Maleek Berry
Another popular name in the Nigerian music industry who you may not know is also actually British is singer and record producer, Maleek Berry who is responsible for making such hits as The Matter, Kontrol, Been Calling, and many more.
Maleek Shoyebi popularly known as Maleek Berry was actually born in South London, United Kingdom in 1987 and is by citizenship, a British-Nigerian man. Are you surprised by that?
5. Bisola
Finally on our list and one that may shock you the most to find is that Nigerian singer, actress and Big Brother Naija housemate, Bisola Aiyeola is actually also a British woman.
During her appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast, Bisola revealed that she was actually born in the United Kingdom but never stayed long enough to take the passport because people back home told her mother that if Bisola was to stay in the UK, that she would spoil. So when Bisola was just about a year old, she was carried back to Nigeria where she has lived majority of her life. Are you surprised?
So Tems, Seyi Shay, Ayo Jay, Maleek Berry, and Bisola are all actually also British citizens. Which of them, if any, surprised you the most to find out? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment either below or on my Jide Okonjo Facebook post.
