The Colorscapes MasterclassTop Story - June 2021
I fell in love with photography back in Fall of 2015. I was 15 years old at the time. I always had a fascination with the Universe and I thought it would be very cool to be able to capture photographs of the stars. I knew I wouldn't have much success with my phone camera at the time, so I did a little research on the internet to learn more about how I could start taking star photos with an actual camera. One of the first things I read about was this thing called a DSLR. At the time, I wasn't all too sure what that was. I knew it was a camera of some sort, but I had no clue why it was called a DSLR. Regardless of my lack of understanding or knowledge, I asked my parents if we had one and it just so happened that we did!

Getting Creative With Color
Finding Focus Color has been the main focus of my photography and editing ever since I really started getting serious about it back in 2017. I wanted to be unique with my work and so I tried everything I could to pinpoint a way of doing that. I wanted to narrow down my focus to one general thing that I'd always accentuate in my images. I looked at all the work that was popular at the time and being shared all over Instagram, and then I did the opposite. Not necessarily the complete opposite of what everyone was doing, but just enough to be different.

Behind The Shot: Endless Horizons
Post-production is one of the best ways to create a unique look to your imagery and stand out in a world filled with photographers. While the idea of editing and photo manipulation is still not widely 'accepted' by many in the world, I honestly believe that post-production is the future of photography. Every single photographer edits their images to at least some degree. In fact, Peter Lik, one of the world's most famous landscape photographers who has sold over $500 million worth of prints, heavily relies on post-production in order to make his images stand out and attract buyers.

My First Solo TripFirst Place in Solo Trip Challenge
Early December 2019, my parents are getting ready to leave on a dirt biking trip with some friends in Southern California. My family had been planning this trip for months. But I wasn't invited. Not because they didn't want me there... I think... Rather, this was the first year I was without a dirt bike, as I had just recently sold it in exchange for a larger street-legal motorcycle. In addition to that, I no longer lived at home, so I wasn't always automatically included in trips with the family. Due to these factors, I was understandably told to sit this one out. Which was a tad disappointing for me...

The Beauty of Our Planet
Earth is beautiful and there is no doubt about that, wouldn't you agree? We all know it, we have all seen beautiful photographs from amazing places from all over the world. But how often do we stop and think about just how special this planet is that we call home? When was the last time you went for a walk out in nature and really soaked it all in? Ignoring all the menial things going on in your life and just focusing on what surrounded you at that exact moment? Perhaps it has been a while, I know it has for me.

Car Camping In San Francisco
Back in December 2019 I had the opportunity to go down to the States for a dirt biking trip with my family in southern California. I was invited to come along on this trip only a week before my family was scheduled to leave. Despite the last-minute invite, I was without a doubt all-in for this trip. I had actually been wanting to do a solo road trip down to the States sometime that Winter, so this was the moment I had been waiting for.

For the Love of Adventure
TikTok has taken the internet by storm in the past couple years with its addictive layout, usability, and user-based content. It started out as Musical.ly, a place where users could upload videos of them lip-syncing or 'dancing' to songs. And later it evolved into TikTok, which still has much of that Musical.ly content but also many new forms of content and communities that are entirely different.

The Butchart Gardens are without a doubt one of the most majestic and fantasy-like places I have ever visited in my life. The Japanese Gardens in particular, especially with good morning light and peak Autumn colors; are nothing short of amazing. I came here early one Autumn morning and managed to get in just after the place opened. I paid my $30 entry fee and immediately started speed-walking to the Japanese Gardens. I was so excited to visit this place that I had always heard about but never visited. And I was even more excited to finally have the chance to photograph it. Plus, I came on a midweek day when there weren't as many people in the park so I could better enjoy this gem in solitude.

Photographing Lightning in the Pacific Northwest
Photographing lightning has always been a dream of mine as a landscape photographer. There have been many times that I have witnessed lightning in-person in recent years, but often I wasn't able to shoot it due to a lack of time, preparation, sometimes both. Lightning storms are very rare here where I live on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. We might get one or two annually, and when they do happen, it's often in the middle of the night when I am asleep and unaware of what's happening outside.
