Gourmet and Ghosts
Food, sustenance, grub - whatever you want to call it - we all have to have it. This is one need that we can spice up or down to our tastes. I love all different types of foods which seems to be odd considering I grew up in a meat and potatoes home. I didn't really know the different types of cuisines until I got a bit older. When I was growing up here in Calgary, I don't remember many restaurants being around other than the White Spot that used to be across from the Knox United Church downtown (see last article attached for more ghostly info) and of course some restaurants in the city's Chinatown.

Changes
Everyday I get up and say it will be a great day. That is how I wake up and how I go to sleep. I think even if the day doesn't go as planned or is a bit rocky, it doesn't mean it was a bad day as I used to believe. Back when I was young, I used to make plans for everyday, and I think that contributed to the anxiety I used to feel then as well. Nowadays I still have to pull myself back from over planning everything because that seems to be my nature, but I have to say I don't have anxiety like I did in the past. I think planning is important to an extent, but I also think that things that are meant for you will be yours, so I have learned to have balance and patience.

Needs
Over the years I've spent many hours in thrift stores for various reasons. I've gone there out of necessity as well as being environmentally conscious and trying to make less of a footprint on our earth. In my mind there are many things you can buy used and still get what you need from them. One of the other reasons I have gone also is just being social with my friends. It seems funny but friends go out shopping together and so there's no difference I feel in shopping at a thrift store aka the treasure store.

Martin's Dream Date
Athena was looking at her emails to see if she had heard anything back from user name: Handsome Man 2020 and so far there was nothing. She wondered if she would hear from him. She thought back to their chat on the LookingforLove website, and how he sounded like the perfect man for her. His pictures didn't look too bad either. They had been chatting for a couple of months; and the more they chatted, the more she wanted to meet this almost too good to be true man.

Brave Woman
Dear mother - you are the first woman I met when I entered this world kicking and screaming. You taught me how to stand well on my own as life was not easy and nor was it ever promised to be. Thank you for teaching me how to be clean and to clean, how to cook, how not to judge others, how to care and to love, when to be careful, and all the other teachings and all else you did in my life. I know your life was not an easy one as you were snatched from your home as a child to live in a residential school. You lived without your parents and community in a place that was more cruel than kind. Thank you for teaching me that no hardship goes without leaving you a gift - that gift is endurance. Endurance builds character. Character builds hope and without hope, everything is lost. Thank you for all these gifts.

Death and Taxes
Everyone has heard of Benjamin Franklin's saying, "The Only Two Things Certain in This Life are Death and Taxes." Both seem inevitable, except that death only comes once, whiles taxes are greedy and come all the time whether they are personal taxes, property taxes, corporate taxes or goods and services taxes. I thought I'd write a little on Canadian personal taxes since it is now what accountants call "tax time", and 2020's taxes have some changes that may be helpful to know for filing.

Pain!
Have you ever been sleeping soundly and then wake up suddenly in pain? All because you have cramps in your feet, and they are running up your calves making your feet stand at attention in a strange way? This was happening to me because I had become quite a bit more active on a daily basis (or was it?) than I had in the past few months prior to this. I had never had cramps this painful before. Sure I've had cramps in my legs before and in lots of other places in my body, but these ones lasted longer and seemed more painful. I used to wake up and shake them out and then they'd stay out, but these ones didn't shake out or even leave when I would try to walk them out.

Money, here today, gone tomorrow
I've always tried to be efficient in whatever I am doing; and it turns out even doing my online shopping, that is so. I have done shopping online for various products from essential oils to corporate tax programs. Most of these were items I searched out myself though and only bought what I went in search for, so I didn't think these were a problem.

Popcorn, Nachos
I am a person who likes to watch different genres of movies. It's funny now that I think about it because growing up the TV was not a huge presence in my memories at all, and what I do remember is that we had three channels. Of those channels I remember only being really interested in Saturday morning cartoons and Sunday evening 6 pm Disney movies.

Spring is in the air...
About eight years ago I started to downsize. I lived in a two bedroom townhouse by myself. It had lots of storage space and was split level. I liked it but then I had to move. I decided I had too much to move, so it was there I started my downsizing out of necessity.

Love Disasters
Now nearing sixty, I finally can look back at all the serious romantic relationships I have ever had with an impartiality that never existed before. I think as I grow older I have indeed grown wiser as well. I always thought we never stopped growing as people as long as we continue to strive to make ourselves better for us and others. And I've had a lot of growing to do in this department as I've fumbled around a lot.

A Sign of the Times
With all the options out there to make sure we eat (food delivery, pick up, drive thrus and meal preparation businesses), my daughter and I decided to try the meal kits delivered in boxes as we thought this would be helpful for us with our limited time. In our household we have three children, my daughter and myself. Besides limited time we also decided to try these meal kits, so we could try out some other cuisines. I had been getting complaints that the food was always the same, so I thought this seemed like a good alternative to splash up our meals at least for a short time. Either they'd appreciate my cooking more or we'd find something that we might extend to a longer term. I always tried recipes from the internet or recipe books I couldn't part with, so this was a little different.
