Wendy S Peavy
Hello there! I am an aspiring author working on my first novel in the romance genre. I also write and manage two blogs. I have been married for 24 years to the same tolerant man, and we have two precious cats.
Merry Christmas, My Children
It’s Christmas morning, but the house is quiet except for the sounds of a hungry cat trying to wake us for breakfast. Sleepily, I walk to the kitchen, two felines on my heels. I try not to trip over them as I pop cans of food open and portion it out. Mercy cries when she smells it, and Pixel runs to check on her, making sure it’s only the lack of food that disturbs her. The three of us walk back to the bedroom as we do every morning. Sassy, Pixel and Mercy are enjoying their morning meal, but the house is quiet.

For this reason, and because sour grapes, I present to you my “List of reasons cats are better than kids.”
Dear Younger Me...
Have you ever wished you could go backward in time? Not to relive the reckless days of your youth, but to tell yourself, “Hey! It’s going to be okay. Life isn’t that horrible after all”? Maybe it’s only once. Perhaps you’d time travel, find your teenage self and give him or her a hug, and say, “Hang in there, kiddo. It will get better.” Maybe you’d open a lifeline between the two selves and check in a few times a week.
Danae awakened from slumber. A heart-shaped, golden locket on a broken chain clutched in her fingers. She gazed out at her surroundings; the room was dusty and filled with rubble, broken glass, and other debris. “What happened?” she asked, but no one answered, for she was alone. She lifted her head and felt an unfamiliar ache. Her fingers touched her face and came away slick with crimson blood.
