Hi there, I’m Sheena. I'm an Ohio born and bred creative and old-school writer who prefers the smooth flow of ink on paper over the clickity-clack of typing on a keyboard. I love travel, typewriters, and doughnuts. Get my ebook!

The Mentor Who Changed My Life by Building My Confidence
I am so fortunate that throughout my life, I have had countless mentors who have guided me through the various stages we all go through in life. My first mentor helped me settle on what I thought would be my forever career and what I needed to do to get there. Another mentor showed me the ropes in my new city while connecting me to industry big-wigs who were immensely helpful when I was looking for work.

Gaining Clarity from Writer's Block
It's eight o'clock on a Monday evening, and I have the urge to write. As a full-time copywriter and a freelance writer, I spend almost every day writing something. Sometimes it's about tech or my love for my dog Arlo Moon, and sometimes it's about random things like recognizing the strength that comes with silence. I am always writing. So you can imagine that I go somewhat crazy when I can't write or get stuck in the endless loop known as writer's block.

The Art of Freelancing While Working Full-TimeTop Story - October 2021
Freelancers have been around for decades. They often worked with agencies to help with increased workloads as they continued to add clients to their business portfolio. But the side gig economy only recently took off among the masses.

7 Ways Women Can Empower Each Other Towards Success in the Workplace
As young girls, our best friends are often other girls. We play in the sandbox together, race each other across the monkey bars, and braid each other’s hair. But as we start maturing into young women, we are subtly taught to compete with each other, usually to get attention.

The Dark Side of a True Crime Obsession
I'm about as obsessed with true crime as they come. I own every book Ann Rule ever wrote (best known for The Stranger Beside Me) and I love a good true-crime podcast. I have seen almost every episode of Snapped. I watch both true and fictional crime shows in my free time. I can rattle off a dozen serial killers and their MOs at any given time. Not to mention, I am going to my third CrimeCon in April in none other than Sin City. I've even met a survivor of famed serial killer Ted Bundy. You get it—I really enjoy true crime.

The Power of Silence
We live in a society where silence is uncomfortable. If we are on a date and we hear crickets, it must mean something is wrong. If we present an idea in a meeting and it’s dead silent, we immediately worry that the message missed the mark. It’s so uncomfortable, in fact, that one of my colleagues used to ramble on to avoid the dreaded awkward silence at the end of our meetings.

Why it's so Damn Hard to Hate Starbucks
The aroma of coffee swirling in the air, friendly baristas greeting customers by their first name, regulars chatting about the latest news—walking into a coffee shop just feels like home. And while I wish the coffee shops I visited were the cute little shops in the trendy parts of town, they are not. My coffee shop is Starbucks.

There's WFH and then there's WFH with a needy pupTop Story - October 2021
Arlo Moon is my child. He's a little different in that he has four legs, is furry, can't speak proper English, and has a tail, but he's my son nonetheless. And in case you're wondering, yes, I am a crazy dog lady who spoils Arlo and often prefers his company over that of nearly anyone else. And because I am fully remote, I spend all day, every day, with Arlo (and I wouldn't have it any other way).

Finding My "Home" in the Career World
For me, home is a safe space. It's comfortable, cozy, and above all else, inspiring. I am a fiend for everything hygge, so in my home, you'll find fuzzy blankets, warm whites, creams, and greys, soft textures, candles, Rifle Paper Co. notebooks, and warm wood tones. And as a writer, I have books, journals, pens and pencils, and even a few typewriters sitting around.
