Vocal Spotlight aims to highlight standout creators who are changing the world one story at a time. We're getting to know the storytellers who inspire us the most, and we can't wait for you to meet them.
Creator Spotlight: Call Me Les
Lesley Leatherdale, or "Call Me Les" as she's known on Vocal, is a model creator—plain and simple. Gravitating around her larger-than-life presence on Vocal exists a collection of creator resources and auxiliary communities; each serving to promote the same creator-first environment we strive to foster.
Creator Spotlight: CJ Miller
CJ Miller is an immensely talented (yet equally, tragically modest) fiction writer based out of the lovely Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard. There, just off the eastern coast of the US, CJ prefers to stay off the digital grid, as well as the geographical one. We consider ourselves lucky we found her; and we suppose we only have the powerful characters she contrives to thank for that.
Creator Spotlight: Culture Slate
Culture Slate is a creative collective that produces written and audio/visual content around all things Star Wars, Marvel Cinematic Universe, and "the latest breaking pop culture and entertainment news from around the web." The collective consists of Chris Seekell (CEO), Clarice Quinn Taylor (CFO), Amber Hope (CCO), Benjamin Hart (CSMO), and their "crack team of writers" and other creative professionals. Hosting almost 1,300 stories on their author page, Culture Slate has proved to be one of the most prolific creators on Vocal—and they're just getting started.
Creator Spotlight: Members-Only Challenge Winner - Denise Elnajjar
Denise Elnajjar is a fashion & lifestyle illustrator, mixed media artist, and writer based out of New York City. Her creative skills and passions came together beautifully in her submission to the Vocal+ exclusive Members-Only challenge (supported by Memberful), where she ultimately won the largest payout in Vocal challenge history. Denise's first-place-winning piece, "Armchair Traveling to Every Country Through Art," earned her $22,500, and outlined her plan to "implement a project [she's] long thought about, dreamed about, and want[s] to make happen."
Creator Spotlight: Marcel Grabowiecki
Marcel Grabowiecki is an extraordinarily passionate and driven writer, actor, producer, and director based out of London, UK. We'd say he's an up-and-coming talent, but Marcel's accolades suggest that he already came, went, and has solidified himself as a legitimate player in film and entertainment.
Creator Spotlight: Joe Shetina
Joe Shetina is a queer writer, poet, and playwright from Chicago, Illinois. Amongst the many facets of their literary prowess, we find Joe's ability to establish trust with the reader most impressive. Whether that's in a fictional tale of post-apocalyptic Chicago, or in a non-fictional reflection piece on flatulence in middle school gym class, Joe's authority over the narratives they tell leads readers away from storyline skepticisms that so-often plague even the most experienced storytellers.
Creator Spotlight: Suri Chan
Suri Chan is an artist and poet who decorates the internet with beautifully-illustrated, primarily free-verse poetry. Her illustrations add a modest and genuine feel to her work, creating an open space for poetry-lovers and non-lovers alike to enjoy, reflect, and follow along to the narrative behind the stanzas. They create a dream-like layer to her work and inspire a deeper level of connection. A proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Suri inspires her followers to challenge and break free from stale assumptions while offering an honest perspective on what it's like to be newly queer.
Creator Spotlight: Lindsay Rae Brown
Lindsay Rae Brown is a comedic writer with the innate ability to make her readers feel more at home in their existence—and we absolutely adore her. There is no learning curve to understanding the appeal to Lindsay and her work. She's charismatic, approachable, and downright hilarious at first impression; and, as long-time fans, we can say with full confidence that she only gets funnier with time.
