A Tragic Tale Part 4
I laid there on the ground and I tried to conserve that last little bit of warmth and energy I had. The noise was coming closer and I still couldn’t distinguish where or what it was coming from. Wait! That’s the same sound I heard in my dream before I saw the…I remembered the screech from my dream and my heart had begun to race. No. This couldn’t have happened: It did happen. This is where everything I knew began unraveling as a lie. Turning around I saw the bats. As they came closer, I realized they were not just bats, but were humanlike with wings. Like in the dream (nightmare), their skin was leathery like a cow’s hide. Except, I cow is gentle and fun to be around while these things were demonic things that fly. I ran even though I didn’t know why they were chasing me. The thought of a demon-like bird human chasing you would be terrifying enough. My feet only ran as fast as they would carry me. The landscape that surrounded me had almost completely frozen my body. It was hard for me to run any faster than a hobbled jog to get away from the terrible creatures. This is exactly what happened in my dream! I didn’t stop running.

A Tragic Tale Part 3
A subtle howling escaped the underside of the door. The noise startled me and I threw myself onto the bed trying my best not to look like a coward. It’s fine. It was just the wind, outside, from the direction of the door. No big deal! The sound came again and this time the light from under the door became so unbearable that I had to cover my face, so I didn’t go blind. I reached for the comforter on the bed and shoved it over my head. After a few minutes, I popped back out to see if anything had changed. Nothing about the door itself had changed, but it had begun to grow dimmer. My peace of mind started to return, and then a really spooky thing happened. The door creaked open all on its own. Well, I’ve lost it. If I go home now and tell everyone this house is seriously haunted then I’m going to get sent to a looney bin. The door stood all the way open and the light had almost completely disappeared. I didn’t want to go near the closet, but I did anyway. Something or someone wanted to look inside to see what there was. I left my bag by the bed because I thought I would be back for it. I was wrong. I walked closer to the closet until I was close enough to smell the rotting wood. Before I knew what was happening, I was pulled inside; out of my own existence.

A Tragic Tale Part 2
That next morning, I felt like our party last night might have summoned a ghost that has decided to tether to my soul and stay around for a while. There seemed to be a layer of something lingering in the air. I couldn’t put a finger on it, but I knew it, whatever it was, floated around my presence. My mom was making breakfast in the kitchen when I walked and I was surprised. It was a meal fit for a king. Waffles and pancakes were stacked high with whopping amounts of butter and syrup. Toppings like sprinkles, whipped cream, sliced fruit, and bacon were spread across the table.

A Tragic Tale Part 1
Exposition: This is the story of how my life turned upside down after I had a terrible accident. At least, that’s what people are telling me here at the hospital. They say nothing really happened to me and I dreamed the whole thing. I know that place was real. The torture I went through under that villain wasn’t a dream; it was a nightmare. She took what I loved from me and made me feel so insignificant that I lost all my courage. Now, I’m sitting here in a padded room and everyone thinks I’ve gone crazy.

A Multi-Book Review of The Legend Series by Marie Lu
Multi-Book Review: The Legend Series by Marie Lu March 1st, 2022- I started the journey of reading the Legend series by Marie Lu. So far, I’ve only read the first book, and I am loving it. I enjoy reading Dystopian novels and coming back to the genre that got me into reading. I haven’t read a novel like this in a while. Tropes are like themes that are repeated through many books, primarily young adult fiction, that hold certain meanings for something happening in a book. Dystopian novels are filled with classic tropes that we love to encounter as readers like enemies to lovers, love triangles, or the chosen one. It just so happens that the Legend series is a perfect example of some of these tropes.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret: The Art of Movie Magic
Introduction: Where did the idea of movies come from? Was it from the mind of only one person or was it a collaboration of multiple intellects bringing the magic of the theatre to the big screen? In fact, the latter applies to these questions. It began with the Lumiere Brothers who created the first camera and created the short film “Train At La Ciotat Station”. Then, another man, among many others, took it upon himself to start bringing a new type of movie-making experience into the world. The man, by the name of Georges Méliés, began as a magician in the theatre. According to Russel Sharman, the author of Moving Pictures: An Introduction to Cinema, “he was one of the first to see the Lumieres’ cinematography in action in 1895 and immediately saw its potential as a form of mass entertainment” (Sharman 17). Méliés’s stories of flying to the moon, going under the sea, and the true story of falling away from the public’s eye after WW1 took the stage.

Intro to Fiction: Themes and Setting
Themes and Settings What happens when the world that was once known is turned on its head and everything changes? During the first week of this Introduction to fiction course, the class has read two short stories that encompass the theme of change and loss. The first story is “We All Go Through This” by Jamey Bradbury. The story is about a group of students who go to school every day expecting things to stay the same, but then one day one of their classmates doesn’t return home from school. Most of the story revolves around how the change from losing their friend affects the students and the setting of the story. The second piece of literature up for analysis is “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. This short story changes in two ways; the narrator has trouble around her newborn, and there is a change in location. Both stories analyzed in this essay contain themes of change and loss that affect or cause a setting to change.

Serialized Story: Reality Check Part 2: Level 1
Part 2: Level 1 Chapter 2: New Findings At this point, my nerves were still haywire from the shock of waking up to an unfamiliar place, my interactions with the figure, and straight up fear of the unknown. The figures' quick reappearance shook my senses even more. My hands were shaking, my breath ragged, and my body felt like jello. I hadn’t heard any sound coming from the other rooms since I stepped out into the hallway, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t danger beyond what I currently saw. In the room where I had woken up, there was safety in knowing that there were four walls and a door between me and the outside, but danger could have been around any corner.
