Getting Down After Losing Pounds
In a previous volume of my weight loss journey, I spoke a little bit about the depression that can occur with losing a lot of weight quickly, especially with people who have had weight loss surgery. In that article, I said I would go into more detail, and that is because I feel depression is a much more serious thing to discuss. As someone who has dealt with severe depression for a good portion of their lives, I felt it important to go into my feelings on why depression can occur after weight loss surgery. I am not saying that this will happen to everyone. There are certainly a lot of people who get happier and happier as time goes on, but this is certainly something that can happen which is why I wanted to write about it.

The Mask that Hides Us
There you are, smiling, laughing, dying on the inside. It is a difficult life to live when you suffer from severe depression and have to function as a normal human being. People don’t understand the weight the disease has on you, and yes, depression is a disease. So you put on that mask, and pretend to be happy when all you really want to do is curl up and hide away from the world.

'Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle' Review
Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle is a 2017 action film with a bit of a James Bond vibe. In the movie, the Kingsman are a group of secret government agents who are sworn to protect the world from evil. They use code names based off King Artur characters, giving them a bit of historical class. In most situations, they handle some of the most dangerous and difficult missions which require special training and skills.

Fight for Our Kids' Health
For the last several days, my daughter has come home with tales of her school lunch experiences. She has been in school just over a week and already is afraid she will starve during her school day if she doesn’t take her own lunch. Today, for example, she wasn’t even given enough food to keep her body functioning through PE class. I must admit, this broke my heart.

'Passengers' Review
Passengers is a 2016, Sci-Fi movie starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. In the movie, a group of people have been put in a form of hibernation while they travel through space toward a new colony planet, 120 years away. During the travels, Jim, played by Chris Pratt, is awakened due to a disturbance in the ships system. Later, Aurora, played by Jennifer Lawrence, joins him.

'The Orville' Review
Note: This may have minor spoilers for the first episode. Fox TV has recently released a new sci-fi comedy show called, The Orville, starring Seth MacFarlane and Adrianne Palicki and, I have to say, I am impressed. We all know Seth MacFarlane from Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show, as well as many movies. Over the last two decades, we have become very familiar with his form of comedy and style, and The Orville has proven to be another gem in his comedy arsenal.

What the Doctors Didn't Tell Me About Weight Loss Surgery
Making the decision to have weight loss surgery was not an easy one. It took years for me to make the final decision, and with it came a lot of research. Many people believe weight loss surgery to be “the easy way” and that couldn’t be farthest from the truth. It has been more work than any other diet plan I ever tried, however, it is the one with the best results. I will say, this isn’t the right choice for everyone, however, it was for me, and I will never regret it.

When Depression Feels like RageTop Story - September 2017
Recently I have been dealing with a lot of changes in my life, something that can be difficult for most people, much less a person dealing with mental health issues. However, the emotions I felt during all of these changes were much different from anything I had experienced before. It sent me to the internet, searching for others who had gone through a similar experience. I wondered if something else was wrong with me, or if I had finally snapped. Why? Because I was angry.

When Anxiety Won't Go Away
This past weekend was not particularly stressful. We didn’t go out or participate in any social events. For the most part, we stayed home, watched television, and played games. However, most of the weekend, I spent in what could only be described as a prolonged panic attack.

The Pull of Passion
It was one of those days. You know, the kind of day that everything sets you off. Every noise, every word that was spoken to me had my blood boiling. An explosion rested just below the surface of my sanity. By the time I got home, all I wanted was a glass of wine, a bubble bath, and a good book to fall into and forget about the world.

I Want to Live!
“Make sure I wake up.” That was the last thing I said when I was laying on the operating table getting ready for surgery. The anesthesiologist was about to put the mask on my face and put me to sleep, and all I could think about was ensuring I would be alive come the end of the day. I was terrified of the surgery, but I was even more terrified of what my life would be if I didn’t get it.

Awesome Low Carb Subsitutes
Living a low carb lifestyle can be extremely difficult. People who have made the change for health reasons or because of going through weight-loss surgery have learned to adapt though. Below is a list of my favorite low carb substitutes to help make the transition easier on you.
