Hello readers! While my biggest passion is for music, I've been writing, drawing, and creating since I could crawl. I hope my stories inspire hope, courage, strength, tenacity, humility and laughter in my readers. Join me on this journey!
It's A Dog's Life!
It was a hot, humid, drizzly day in Indiana, earlier this July. One of my friends I had attended school with for what seems like forever - who ended up being the lead guitarist and vocalist for a successful, up-and-coming South Suburban Chicagoland band called OUTDrejas [outdrejas.com]. - was getting married! My older sibling was invited. That meant I had to mind the pets of the household.
"The Epitome of Generativity"
Integrating a socially awkward, severely traumatized, mentally-ill young woman, and her older cat, Nitty - with a passion for the arts ANYWHERE - especially from "The Heights" of Heaven into this Post-Pandemic World we ALL now find ourselves in - while crossing over the border, with the help of my family and friends from the South Suburban Chicagoland area into the Northwestern Indiana region - or Northeastern Indiana, in you prefer - I have to think FAST. But slow down and be aware.
Walking the Dog in an Interdependent & Independent-Minded State!
Welcome to Northwest Indiana, says Roxy, who loyally panted by my side after a long and winding stroll down our new “hood”. Her older sister, Nitty, rested in the other room – always on-call. Today, the dog walked VERY WELL, in this “new” Northwestern Indiana territory. Remember, she’s from the Caribbean, and has ALLERGIES. I’m from the South Chicagoland Area, mentally ill, and came with an elderly cat with ongoing FOOD desires. You’ll learn WHY people LOVE their dogs here, and the OBLIGATIONS of ALL PET/ANIMAL SUPPORTERS out there to BE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS by BEING KIND AND MINDFUL! As you should be to yourself!
There ARE beaches in Northwest Indiana. Lake Michigan is the ocean of the Midwest. It climbs upward north, along the eastern border of Wisconsin, where it then reaches around it's namesake state, Michigan, and feeds into Lake Huron, like a glove, on it's eastern border. It then crawls further north, narrowly crossing the our norther neighbor's border by streaming into, and along with, Lake Huron, at Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. It also dips down south, along the eastern border of northern Illinois, highlighting the best of the "City of Big Shoulders", Chicago. A tiny portion dips eastward into Northwest Indiana, as well. There's even a town named, "Michigan City" in Indiana. [Google Maps].
Crossing the Border...
A month or so ago, it was proposed that I come stay with my older sibling for a week or two, to spend some more time together. Despite my state of SEVERE paranoia and anxiety at the time, I agreed. I was eagerly looking forward to spending time with my older sibling. Seems like it had been forever! Indeed it had been. My older sibling and myself were VERY close growing up. When I was 13, they left for basic training, and ultimately ended up serving two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2004 and 2008. Upon arriving home, I was 18 and stupid. They were 22, and had just seen combat. On top of that, the housing market had collapsed, and job prospects in Illinois were limited, even for Veterans. It was a terrible time, and we never really had the chance to re-connect.
