Man Bites Dog
I read once that revenge was like biting a dog that bit you. Whoever said that failed to realise everyman must bite his dog. The secret is to bite the dog first. That is what happens in the wild. When a new litter of puppies is born into the pack, the alpha dog, on their first night, bites each puppy hard on the scruff of their necks. It is important. It is their initiation into the pack. That puppy knows pain for the first time; knows its source and respects and fears it. When you first take that new puppy home, for your family; you must also do the same. You must pick up that beautiful fragile animal and bite it on the scruff of the neck until it screams. Then gather them up and smother them with love, letting them kiss your face, telling you they are sorry. That new dog must know you are in control, you are the alpha, otherwise that dog is going to bite someone you love one day.
There Once Was An Ugly Duckling
I should start this with an apology; there is no such thing as an ugly duckling. The title is not strictly clickbait more word association. Most people remember the song associated with the 18th Century Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, it just plays naturally in your head anytime you see ducklings in the wild. For me my earliest memory is connected to Disney’s 1939 Silly Symphony classic ‘The Ugly Duckling’. This is definitely worth watching again as it is Disney at its most artistic, timeless and beautiful. Long before the commercial beast we know today. Also every troop of ducklings has that one individual slightly slower trailing behind. The odd one out.
Dinosaurs in the Fata Morgana
Poppy had decided that at the end of everything, her life would be retold in a series of father/daughter conversations. Sitting in her father’s car outside ‘The Fata Morgana Pizzeria’, she knew this conversation would make her final anthology before it had even begun.
The Short Lived Adventures of Scallydog's Emporium
Between May 2010 and May 2013 down Hatfield Road in St. Albans, behind the Fleetville Vintage Emporium was another large thrift store, full of wonderful second hand furniture and vintage bric-a-brac. It was a unique experience. A place full of interesting things and fascinating characters. It was called Scallydog’s Emporium. It was quite unlike any place that had been created before or after. It was run by a father and son team called Trevor and Tom. It was open 363 days of the year and even sometimes in the dead of the night you could walk down there and knock on the door and find one of them tinkering around. Like most perfect things it flared brightly into existence and very soon afterwards it was gone. I am in a very unique position to take you through the history of this nostalgic endeavour as I am Tom, the younger half of the team. So here is our brief history.
The Coolest Little Sheep in the World
I absolutely love March and April. It is two months of cold and rain and sometimes snow. The ground is muddy, too muddy.
