BASKETBALL
Basketball was my first love; she was there before my Queens and the bevy of Co-Eds that came along once they saw us together. She was there in the beginning; I was an 8-year-old unknown baller. We rode together on my bike to the Spindale House to sign up to play with her. Our love affair only increased when I got my own later that year, I took her to the Carver Middle school ball field.

Princess of Lake Lure
I spent the night after our loss, unable and unwilling to sleep. Each time I dozed, horrifying moments from the game would invade my dreams like an endless loop of the movie A Nightmare on Elm Street. In the dream I’m dribbling up the court I look down at my feet, my right foot vanishes. I fall and continue falling down this black bottomless pit; the only thing capable of occupying my mind and relieving my mental and physical anguish is the sight, sound, and scent of a beautiful Co-Ed. Win or lose, Courtney and I had plans to spend the day and night together at her parents’ lake house on Lake Lure. Lake Lure’s claim to fame is where they filmed the popular movie Dirty Dancing starring Patrick Swayze.

My Kappa Sweetheart
I have nothing but the utmost respect for fraternities and sororities, especially black frats and soros at predominantly white institutions when you make up a small percentage of the overall student population you could feel alone. The frats and soros give the minority student a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves.

A LOST DREAM
The difference between winning and losing, advancing or going home, can sometimes come down to the smallest details. The margin of error in a playoff high school basketball game can be as thin as the head of a needle. A needle capable of protecting you against a deadly virus or of delivering a dose of death.

The After Party
My coming out party a success; it’s now time for the After Party. Carp secures the keys to his mom’s car, and we are going to the Connection. It’s a predominantly black club in nearby Polk County. Usually the age requirement is 18 to enter and 21 to drink. However, when you live up to the Great Expectations and drop 28 points in front of a capacity crowd against your cross-town rivals, exceptions are made. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the owner is the Uncle of your teammate Carp. This is a repeating theme at all the black clubs of STF and strategic Convenient Stores. They did not card me. I appeared to be a college kid, although I was only 15.

RS CENTRAL vs EAST
It’s the night before the biggest game of the young basketball season. The eve of Small Town Friendly finally seeing firsthand what's all the fuss surrounding Kincaid. We are to play our cross-town rivals: East High Cavaliers. They have a formidable squad, a senior laden team. The leader is their star point guard, David. He is 6 foot 3 long arms a great defender and intimidates most other point guards in the always tough Southwestern Conference. Tracy, their power forward, was as big as an offensive lineman and second best player.

Friday Night Lights
Friday Night Lights in Small Town Friendly is nothing less than extraordinary. The sight of a packed high school stadium; sounds of cheering fans, cowbells ringing and drum beats from competing bands. The smell of freshly buttered popcorn, grilled to perfection hamburgers and hotdogs permeate throughout the quintessential American scene.

My Chocolate Barbie
The average American prefers either chocolate or vanilla, I love both. My mom would get so frustrated when I would take forever trying to decide while the line grew longer at our local Tasty Freeze. They’re both silky smooth in texture and each provides a taste that’s orgasmic to the senses. I would lick and suck every drop out of each cone.

GRANNY'S BARN
The time is nearing for me to meet my destiny. I’ve felt responsible for her since 1st grade after Curtis pushed her down, I made sure Karma took care of him. And held her hand while she cried and we waited for Miss Metcalf to bring the 1st aid kit. Now, nearly a decade later, I’m on the cusp of a lifetime commitment to her. I will be my Love’s first.

International House Party
Our house party is in full effect, the red strobe light gives our living room a club feel. The wheels of steel pumping Public Enemy reppin New York and NWA reppin California are in the mix. A big tin tub of ice filled with Schlitz Malt Liquor Bulls reppin Ledbetter. The bar area has Patrone reppin Mexico and Popov Vodka for the White Russians making it an International Affair. We got all my mates from the Squad; strategically placed Snow Bunnies; Red beans and rice didn’t miss her Sistas posted up at the bay window waiting for the Frat boys from Sigma Ki to put in their bid.
