Skill-In-Drill: Resolve
Probably one of the most popularized feats of martial arts prowess is breaking something. Typically, that something is a wooden board. To those who view the spectacle, it can appear effortless or labored. The board is usually placed above the ground with the ends supported by two platforms or columns to allow for the martial artist to strike through the target. Than, the show begins for the viewing audience.

The Best
I am not sure if every martial arts instructor asks this exact same question to a prospective or new student, but, in some form, I think "What is your goal for taking martial arts?" comes up often in the first couple of conversations. Most students struggle with many issues to bring them to participate in martial arts. Some want to be physically fit, others want to be able to protect themselves, and some are just curious. But, a large percentage state the following answer, "I want to be the best."

How often does anyone see the following: You are walking in [Insert Public Place] and notice that 75% or greater of the occupants are paying more attention to their smartphone than the activities of the place they are cohabitating.

Respect Oneself First
Respect is a tricky concept. Probably, the hardest lesson to master for any student in martial arts or any person navigating life is what does "respect" mean? At various times, individuals are expected to give respect with no other qualifier than "you're supposed to." It always baffles me to think about how many times we say that to a young person, yet we then follow that statement with "respect must be earned."

Learning to Breathe
Have you ever been under a lot of stress? You might say that you find it continuously. When confronted by dilemma, it is amazing that humans often neglect a most vital resource-oxygen. Sometimes, stress will be so severe that individuals even stop breathing or hold their breath in response.
