Next-Level Financial Freedom: 2022 Year in Review
Sometimes, you won’t hit every goal mark. But the journey still taught you nonetheless. That was the lesson learned last year. For 2022, I wanted to culminate in taking my financial mindset to new heights. I even wrote about it at the start of last year. It was time to step my game up. I said to myself, “Each year, there is a new financial focus, but the long-term strategy is still constant.” The focus of 2022 was simple: eliminate debt, stack the coins, and still make room for investing! Let’s take a look at how I did this year.

Things I've Learned By 25
Now that I’m 25, it feels like this first leg of life’s marathon has come to a close. What does that mean for me? I took the time to reflect on my life’s highs and lows. Where have I made progress? What do I still lack? What can be improved? All of those questions went through my mind on my birthday. What else did I think about? The lessons I learned up to this point. How can I summarize the learned lessons so young? This is what I came up with:

Remote Working? Here is Your Biggest Obstacle
Remote work has changed my outlook on the work-life balance spectrum. Working from my living room table leaves me with a sense of security and protection from what the masses would call, corporate politics. I personally have not encountered this in my current job when I make my once-a-week onsite visit, but I have been in the job back in late 2021.

Next-Level Financial Freedom: 2K22 Goals Progress
In January, I created a financial goals list for 2022. I want to say I started doing these yearly goal checklists in 2021, however, I wasn't confident in my ability to measure those goals in real-time. Last year, my money was funny, and my saving habits were wack. Now, I enable the right tools to stay on track and accurate. Let's take a look at my progress:

Next-Level Financial Freedom: Saving vs Investing
On many occasions, I've heard different perspectives on which financial method is the best for your money: investing or saving. Savers will say, "Investing is not smart because you'll lose your money." An investor's rebuttal, "You cannot save your way to financial freedom. It's pointless to save cash!"

Pay Transparency? I think YES!
It's finally happening! The American public is speaking up and wants to know the truth: Where's the salary on this application? To lead this pay transparency movement is the Big Apple. Starting May 15, 2022, any New York employer with over five employees will be required to post the minimum and maximum salary expectations on each job posting.

Forget Extension, Pay Loans Anyway!
Woohoo! The federal student loan freeze is extended to May 1st! When word got out about the extension, borrowers across the US have found some temporary breathing room during the holidays. The initial ending period was going to end after the end of this month and people were stressing out. But it's all good…for now! Even with this extension, there is no telling on what will happen next. Will we get student loan forgiveness for real? Or should we not expect much?

'Tis the Season to be Taxed
Here's what you should know The IRS announced that the US's tax season will begin Monday, January 24, 2022, accepting and processing 2021 tax year returns. The due date is extended to April 18, 2022, due to April 15th scheduled as Emancipation Day. In addition to the Child Tax credit, there are still claims from the 2021 tax season that have not been yet, so expect your wait time to be a little longer than expected. Right now, there's still plenty of time to prioritize and prepare right now as opposed to waiting until the last day. Let's go over the basics to make sure your tax filing process goes smoothly.

Was I Right to Quit my Toxic Job?
When I was obtaining my MBA last year, I had a challenging time finding an entry-level corporate job that aligned with my skills and personality. It has been hard to even get past the ATS screening. The frustration you feel when you get an automated rejection letter is one thing. But, when you are used to it, you become numb to the negative response. Imagine it is still June 2021, you have just graduated and are still jobless, remaining hopeful you will figure out what the next stage of your career will entail. Then, within the drop of a hat, you get a call from a cousin about a job opportunity working for a big-name wholesale lending firm. Woo! You just scored a career win!

Next-Level Financial Freedom: Looking at My 2k22 Goals
My Inspiration Over the course of the past two weeks, I've been reading two books by a great author and personal finance mogul Bola Sokunbi, who is the creator of the financial platform, CleverGirl Finance. These two books, 'Ditch Debt, Save Money, and Build Real Wealth' and 'Grow Your Money', cover the basics of how to create financial wealth and keep that wealth flowing through hard work and a money mindset. Because of learning Bola's personal financial experience, I was intrigued and grew much inspiration outside of my own by reading these books. Last year, I created a personal finance brand to keep myself accountable and use it to inspire others to be able to do whatever they want with their money. Now that my brand is established, it's time to take things to the next level.
