Attack on the Beaumont
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. If death is virtually instantaneous, you won't be screaming anyway. Grace yanked her dagger from the spine of the crew member. She had learned long ago that the quickest and least painful way to kill was to thrust the blade between the atlas vertebrae and any of the other seven cervical vertebrae, preferably number one or two. What was his name? Did he have dreams of becoming a captain some day? Perhaps he was just trying to complete an internship for experience before working at a medical center. She didn’t know.

Look in the box
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Carol provided the location for her old family log house before inexplicably vanishing. She wasn't the first of my comrades to disappear as if snatched away by the hours of twilight, but up to this point, she was the last. I traveled to this place in hopes of finding more survivors -- perhaps relatives of hers, but I’ve mostly observed the same desolate, abandoned hovels scattered throughout the forest. Every now and again, I can almost hear children frolicking about the dark woods or even birds singing. Perhaps an echo of happier times before the great purge.

Stay Single and Improve Yourself.
Chapter 2: Become happy with who you are, and the women will come. I went to a restaurant to meet a woman at a taco place. I got there a bit early as usual. I sat down outside and waited but while there, another attractive female approached me and asked if she could sit next to me while she waited for her ride to show up. I didn’t resist, of course. We had a lovely conversation while enjoying the beautiful night outside. I began to get a bit worried that my date would show up and see me talking to this other female, but she was on her way before my intended date arrived. There are two lessons to be learned here. First, don’t screw up your intended date to chase after another woman even if she is hotter. Second, women seem to be attracted to men that appear to have their act together. No, I am not rich at all! I'm not even close to being rich, at the time, I had my own house, well established employment, paid off car, and I was relatively fit.

The False Dichotomy of Spirituality and Science
I am a teacher, and I get asked this question a lot by teenagers. It's pretty much inevitable that I'll be asked since I teach students about the Big Bang Theory, natural selection, Miller-Urey demonstrations, and the formations of life-giving stars throughout the galaxy. As a teacher employed by the state, I must be very careful to keep the conversation secular and not encourage or discourage any particular religion or even atheism. Before I respond to my students, I always ask them what they mean when they say “God”. It’s a question that almost no one ever asks. What exactly is a God, and I am talking about a God with a capital G. Traditionally, people have referred to a God with a capital G when they mean a Christian God, but in my personal opinion, this gives Christianity too much ownership of a term that can represent so much more than its version of the entity. I am not Christian, but that doesn’t mean that I do not think that a God can exist. The problem with discussions about God is that people make assumptions without providing a definition. Person A hears the term God because person B made a comment about it. Person A assumes that person B means Christian God associated with tablets, burning bushes, and forbidden fruit, but person B is really referring to a kind of super consciousness. Person B could also be referring to Shiva or Vishnu or even Zeus! The point is that there's often a discrepancy that both are unaware of as they continue to debate the issue or answer a question about God. Before I get into any discussion about God, I always define the term first. For purposes of this discussion, but not all discussions, let us define God as an entity that is capable of knowing all things simultaneously and responsible for creating the universe including the rule set within it. I suppose this definition could include a Christian God, but is not limited to one.

Aliens Seeding Earth
Am I crazy? First, let me explain why the idea is NOT out of the questions or crazy. It violates no known laws of science first of all. Further, it’s not something that most people think about; aliens that is. Most of our knowledge of extraterrestrials (ETs) comes from movies, comic books, video games, and other media designed to entertain. As a result, the person broaching the subject in a serious manner is often unfairly ridiculed. I implore you to keep an open mind and look at the facts as your read this article. Also keep in mind that I am not against religion. I am certainly open to the possibility that a kind of super consciousness (God if you will), created life within the universe through conscious will. However, there is currently no way to support this with science yet (assuming that it could be done some day) and so I do not address that issue here. I also do not address government cover-ups or conspiracies here. I’m not outright rejecting their existence, its just not necessary to discuss them for the purposes of providing support for my main argument.

The Black Man's Dilemma
Todd and Allison Habansky made sure that Alex was protected as much as reasonably possible, but there is only so much parents can do. People would stare at Allison when Alex was younger. Why is she with that dark-skinned child? Todd once almost got into a fist fight on a playground because a man told his adopted Black son to leave even though the poor boy was just trying to have fun with the other kids. As a teen, Alex was bombarded with solicitations to purchase drugs. His parents had always warned him about the dangers of drug use.

Fasting to Heal Ulcers
I began fasting to help heal my ulcer. You want the entire story? I think it might actually go all the way back to 2001. I was in the Army at the time and I injured my knee. The doctor prescribed some ibuprofen. I followed the doctor’s advice and took the anti-inflammatory drug, but it always made my stomach feel weird. I even took it with food as directed. Now, understand that I was only 23 at that time. I’ve learned a lot about the human body and health since 2001.

Pot-Roast Dinner
“I’m glad you enjoy it, Dan.” “No, I mean it, honey. This is the best pot roast you’ve ever made for me. The vegetables were excellent too. Meals like this are good but make sure you don’t eat too much of it. I wouldn’t want you to gain any more weight.”
