A writer with a couple of dogs living in Salt Lake City.
Social Media, The Double-Edged Sword
As someone who went close to two years without social media, I can say with certainty, yes there are obvious benefits to not having Instagram or Facebook BUT that isn't to say that there aren't also benefits to having social media. There are. The subject of social media isn't black and white and it's certainly not as simple as good or evil in my mind. I'll explain why.
Are Audio Books Too Easy?
I love audiobooks for obvious reasons. I can do laundry, walk my dog, clean up around the house or even listen during car rides. What's not to love? But are audiobooks too easy on us?
Getting Over Impostor Syndrome
New year's resolutions aren't really for me. When people ask me what my goals are, I usually pick something trivial like winning a Fortnite game for once or saving a little more money. In fact, the only reason I even consider making a real goal in the new year is because I have a January birthday, and birthdays are a good time to look at your life in general.
Same Song & Dance
Day 1 “Oh Fuck!” I thought as I looked outside from my kitchen window one early morning. Across the yard, I see Sam with a couple of twig legs and feathers sticking out of his mouth. I knew he had caught another bird and was proceeding to swallow it up. “SAM!” I yelled as loud as I could. “DROP THAT!” He looked at me and froze completely. Not moving a single muscle but also not opening his mouth to release the poor creature.
My Dad, The Writer
Original story can be found at: https://www.bloglakecity.com/post/my-dad-the-writer To know me, you have to know who my dad was. For over 20 years he was a welder and a good one. He would get up at the crack of dawn, put on his welding clothes, all of them with holes burnt into them, grab a 7-11 breakfast, and be off to work. I still remember how he always smelt like a garage shop.
Sincerely, The Working Millennial
A Bad Reputation Being a millennial myself and a freelance writer, I obviously have a biased perspective on the misconception about millennials, however, I've also been a millennial in the workforce, consistently for the last ten years now. That's right. I've been a punch-in, punch-out, regular 9-5er while also being a millennial. Who would've thought? So how exactly did the entire generation of millennials earn a reputation for being lazy, disloyal, unreliable, unrealistic, and irrational in the workplace?
90 Days of One Year No Beer
Original blog post can be found on: https://www.bloglakecity.com/post/starting-one-year-without-alcohol Why A Year? Why, in God's name would you do an entire year with no alcohol? Okay, maybe not in those exact words but I do get this question a lot and it's a fair question. I'm not really committing to putting the bottle down altogether, I tried that before and failed miserably, but I'm also going a VERY long time without it. It's a strange limbo at times.
