Bio
I have been working as a freelance writer since 2003. I love history, fantasy, science, animals, cookery and crafts, (to name but a few of my interests) and I write about them all. My aim is always to write factual and entertaining pieces.

Pop Helped Me Through Puberty
A glittering stage, over-lit and garish in its over dressing. Upon it a single girl, dressed in a short gown made of hundreds of metal discs - a dress that had come close to disintegrating before she made it onto the stage, which would have left her almost naked before the audience. And then a voice rising up and up, yelling out a pop number with very little in the way of depth lyrically, but a catchy beat.

What Happened to Embroidered Jeans?
I was a teen in the early 2000s and, call it nostalgia if you will, but I can't help recalling the fashions of that decade with a heavy longing. So many of my favourite stomping grounds for clothes back then no longer exist - Etam and Dorothy Perkins have long vanished from the high street and it is difficult to see what has replaced them, at least in my neck of the woods. The old Etam store is now a Starbucks, the former home of Dorothy Perkins now a charity shop.

Wings of an Angel
The day Vixen died was like any other day. Not the sort when you expect your 15 month old Border Collie to go downhill and pass in her sleep. There was no rhyme or reason to it. It happened so fast, no one knew how to react. That day, a piece of my brother's heart broke forever.

Video Game Music for the Soul
Who would have thought video game music could have become such a powerful and emotive format, with many masterpieces of composition being created for the genre? Certainly, head back to the days of the Commodore 64 and even the Amiga, you might not have supposed the tinny soundtracks which sounded very 'digital' could ever transform into such beautiful works of art.

Indulging My Inner 80s Child
I am a child of the 1980s and, gosh, that seems like a shockingly long time ago these days. Admittedly I was a baby for the first half of the decade, so some things slipped me by. I am only belatedly catching up with 80s film classics, which I simply could not have watched back when they were first out.

Dear Gloria
Dear Gloria, It seems a very long time since I last saw you, last saw you smile and ask me about my 'dear dogs'. It seems forever since you picked up a pretty pair of earrings or a scarf, or a delicate brooch and decided that it ought to be mine, that it was just meant for me. You would press it into my hand and when I insisted I could not take it, you insisted I could.

From Lockdown Leggings to Art Supplies
2020 was a year I could never have predicted, it was certainly a year my credit cards did not see coming. It began with my usual ideas of what I was going to do. Mainly attending competitive agility shows with my dogs and try to qualify for some of the big events (Crufts, Olympia). I was thinking about my caravan and travelling all over the country with it. I was looking forward to meeting up with friends, some of whom I am only able to catch up with once or twice a year.

Margaret Busby: The Pioneering Black Publisher who Upset the FBI
In 1967, Ghana-born, Margaret Busby had the idea to start her own publishing company in Britain with her friend Clive Allison. Not only did they have virtually no money to begin a business, but Margaret was young, female, and black. Who would take her seriously in the competitive world of book publishing?
