I am just an ordinary Sydneysider who loves the idea of writing! Constant lockdown has given me the time to reflect on what I want to do and writing is one of them! I hope my stories will inspire you as you read them!
Everlasting friendship is the best!
Looking at those three gifts this morning makes me a little nostalgic. I like colourful gifts. My friends know me quite well. They always choose gifts thoughtfully for me, so I feel like I am spoiled. Gifts for birthdays, Christmas, and other occasions. My best friends are very dear to me. I was able to see them at least once a month before the lockdown. The current lockdown restriction prevents us from visiting each other. We're supposed to attend a musical at the Sydney Opera House in September. Unfortunately, Phantom of the Opera will take place in 2022 instead of 2021 as originally planned.
Have you ever heard of UFO tarts?
These past few days, I have been craving for UFO tarts. You heard me correctly! UFO tarts. Lots of people wanted to know what a UFO tart was. It's a tart that's meringue-based and filled with egg custard. My family used to have these pretty frequently back home in Sandakan, a small city in East Malaysia. Traditionally, East Malaysia was known as Borneo, the land below the wind. It brought back sweet memories of the UFO tarts my grandmother always gave me when I did something right. All the way through my teenage years, these were regarded as a sign of great reward.
Let Me Have My Cake
This morning, I went to work as usual. It has been almost six months when we're allowed to go back to the office again. In the past, I always complained about going to work due to the commuting time, trains packed with rowdy school kids, and cold icy winds during the winter months. But that was the past. Since the onset of Covid and nationwide lockdowns, I always look forward to going back to the office again. There're so many cafes and shops in Martin Place. Seeing people coming and going, has brought so much joy to my heart unknowingly.
My Lockdown degustation menu
I haven't left my house for almost 3 weeks. There is no boundary between home and work these days. Weekdays and weekends are just the same. I am praying every day that my foodie adventure can continue after all the lockdown is over. Dreaming and dreaming, counting the days, watching the TV to see any signs of the government lifting lockdown restrictions. Then one day, I have this idea of creating my own degustation menu, instead of browsing the menu of my favourite restaurants and cafes! Why not? If they can do it, I can do it too! Except that I am an amateur and they are the professionals! The only customers at home will be my parents and myself. I guess mum will not mind me being the Queen of her kitchen for one night.
