Being Unapologetically Me
Growing up, I was never confident in myself or my sexuality. I was always chasing people around, desperate to be accepted which got me in some pretty messed up situations. I always put my faith in the wrong people and got let down every single time. When I got out of my hometown, I realised that the world is so much more accepting than I realised. I came to the conclusion that I didn’t have to be afraid to be myself and I started being unapologetically, me.

The Facility
Every day was the same. Wake up, do the work in your sector, go to bed. The rules of survival were simple: Do NOT go outside. The facility was the only safe place. We had to tell them everything that was going on, including our mental state. It was my appointment soon. I wasn’t sure if I should have told them that I kept having the same recurring dream. I kept seeing the woman in my locket but I had no idea who she was. I don’t know why I wore it but there was something in the back of my mind that wouldn’t let me take it off.

What Actually Happened To Lorraine Cox?
Murder is the most heinous crime a human being can commit. With the hit of the tragic murder of Sarah Everard, women across the world felt a fear rise up and take hold that we were not safe. I managed to disassociate the fear as it was in a different country to me. I felt sorrow and anger that it had happened but I wasn’t scared because I didn’t associate with the area in any way. This was until posters around my city of a missing woman, Lorraine Cox, started to appear.

When Stalking Leads To Murder
Kerry Power was a 36-year-old primary school assistant in Plymouth who sadly lost her life at the hands of her ex-partner, David Wilder, 41, in the early hours of the morning on the 14th of December 2013. Her 10-year-old son was asleep, upstairs the whole time and found her body when waking up in the morning. This case was big in my area, not because of the suspect but because this brought up many issues with the police and helped make needed changes in the force.

Songs Of Pride Your Mum Will Love
The time of year to celebrate our inner queens has finally come around again. With lockdown in England coming to an end the same month as pride it is cause for being more than just extra. We can finally see our fellow LGBTQIA+ and it definitely calls for a celebration. I compiled a list of lesbian/queer musicians who I feel are not as recognised as they should be.

A Wildlife Haven
Grass that changes colour with the seasons and large boulders of rock has always surrounded the areas I have lived in. Late summer and autumn see a burst of colour of pink, purple, yellow and green whereas the winter shows a blanket of white. A beautiful place in Devon called Dartmoor that’s always bustling with a variety of wonderful wildlife. With 400 square miles, it is known as England’s largest and wildest open space. Basically, untouched by human hands the landscape hasn’t been victim to the industrial nature of our species. Rivers, bogs, woodland and grassland stand proud. The bogs are a haven for wildlife. Among enormous clumps of purple moor grass the white heads of cotton wave in the wind whilst the carnivorous sundews and butterwort make a living of preying on bog insects unlucky enough to fall into their treacherous grasp. Butterflies floating in the air bringing dream-like scenes to life. Dartmoor holds memories and magic for many. From the torrent streams and wooded slopes to the open moor, this landscape is a fantastic place to explore and discover new species. Every moment I have spent up there I’ll always hold very dear to my heart. With the breath-taking view and perfect serenity about the environment you’d find it very difficult to be in a foul mood whilst you are smelling the fresh, purified air.

Hair Comes Trouble
I’ve always been obsessed with changing my hair. I'm never happy with it for long. I’ve always felt my hair has been what helps define me. I look at it as a reflection of my personality. I’ve changed colours numerous times and I’m patiently waiting for the opportunity to go to the salon for the first time to have it properly coloured to red and pink. I’ve never really been bothered about the length of my hair though. When I was growing up, I had the bowl cut bob and all throughout my teen years, I was constantly changing it from long to shoulder length. I had always had my mum’s friend, who was a mobile hairdresser, come to the house and cut my hair the correct way. That was until one day I decided to act on an impulsive decision to try and cut my hair myself.

Super Mum
I’ve always admired single mums. Having to take on both parental roles with your child is something I find very commendable. I always had some sort of a father figure in my life. Whether it was my real dad or a step-dad, I’ve always had a “dad.” However, every parental figure in my life has never been good at taking responsibility, including my mother. For advice on subjects' people would normally go to their parents for I had to reach out to others. My best friend. I’ve always relied heavily on her for things my parents really should have taken a bigger role and interest in. From the boys I was seeing to the dark days of my life, she has always been there. I knew that no matter what I was going through, I never had to do it alone. So, when she fell pregnant and had a child of her own at the age of 18, I knew she was going to be amazing and do anything and everything to give her little girl a life she deserves.

A Typical Cliché
Music saved my life. I bet you read that, rolled your eyes and thought “what a cliché” but it is true. Growing up, I didn’t have the best home life and through my teenage years I ended up getting into drugs and drinking to try to cope with it. The only constant my life had with a sense of normality was music. They say that your life reflects in the music you listen to and I’m living proof of that. Every song I listened to always spoke to me in ways I couldn’t understand. With Billie Eilish becoming popular in recent years, I’d like to talk about the “sad girl” music before her that will always be iconic.
