If I Buy This, I’ll Be Happy
One year ago this week, I was laid off and introduced to the quar. Like many other people, I took this as an opportunity to better myself. Or at least told myself I was going to better myself because, let’s be real, I’ve spent the better part of the past year horizontal with my dog on one side and a bag of sweet chili Doritos on the other. None the less, my intentions were good. And like, I’m sure, so many other people out there social media made me even more blindly confident in this. That inspiration was always fleeting, but for a solid 3 or 4 days a month I was committed to this new healthy lifestyle! I spent many a 3 a.m. on Tik Tok inspired to begin my new life the following morning! Cut to waking up at noon, seeing there’s a Roseanne marathon on, and grabbing those Doritos instead. In some small ways, though, these influenced purchases were helpful and did help me become a better version of me who now doesn’t judge myself for eating a Little Debbie brownie for breakfast. Let’s get into it!

The Ten Second Tidy
As a child of the 90's, The Big Comfy Couch was a staple in my house. My sister and I loved this show! I didn't realize exactly how much a clown and her dolly would have impacted how I do chores even now as a 27 year old. If you've never seen The Big Comfy Couch (first of all, how dare you!), you wouldn't be familiar with the ten second tidy. Loonette looks to the camera, offended that someone made such a mess, and realizes it was in fact her mess and she had to clean it up. Check it out.

I Tried Selling Print-On-Demand on Etsy for Six Months
If you've ever looked into ways to make money from home, I'm sure you've seen something about print-on-demand nestled between taking surveys to make $1.80 an hour and driving for Uber. If you've ever looked into print-on-demand as a source of income, I'm sure you've seen the blog posts and YouTube videos titled something like "Make $20,000 This Month!" and "How We Make $100k A Year Without Lifting A Finger!" As someone who would love to make $20,000 a year (forget about per month!), I was intrigued, so I did what any rational person would do: I launched my own Etsy store jam packed with my print-on-demand designs in October. Well, relaunched I suppose. I've used Etsy since 2018 to unload some vintage pieces I didn't want anymore. I digress! I spent weeks researching and learning the best ways to make sales and drive traffic to my store, how SEO works, what promotion and marketing I would need to do, everything! And this is how it went..

Current Mood
By now, I'm sure everybody knows what an emotional journey getting through work and school can be. Especially working from home and attending virtual classes. There is no longer such a thing as a "school" playlist or a "work" playlist; it depends on my mood. Whether I'm motivated, focused, energetic, sad, or (what usually happens) a strange combination of those I have playlists on standby. Seriously, I feel like Spotify is one new playlist away from sending me an email saying "You alright, love?" So, I've pared down 5 of those playlists for you to get your own mood-board-playlists started because you simply can never have enough.

Fluidity in Fashion
Long gone are the days of "You can't wear that, it's for girls." As society is becoming more open and accepting as a whole, the lines of feminine and masculine become more and more blurred. More and more people are questioning why it's acceptable for women to wear men's clothing, but not the other way around. Is it possible to erase the gender identity society bestowed on clothing?

90's Fashion Trends We Still LoveTop Story - August 2020
The 90's had something for everyone. It was a time where, on a global scale, the trends were all over the place. You had Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love leading the grunge revolution, Cher Horowitz and Rachel Green inspiring the next generation of luxury designer lovers, pop stars literally wearing whatever they wanted; it was a truly magical time for fashion. So many of the trends that were popular then have made a strong comeback and some have managed to stay popular since the 90's. These are the best of the best.

Diet Coke and Cigarettes
Just the smell of this place is enough to make me nauseous. It just smells deep fried. The kind of place you walk into and immediately feel the need to wash your face. I made my way to the bathroom eyeing everyone’s food, telling myself I’m not hungry. I’ve survived the last four days on Diet Coke, gum, and Camel lights. One bite of greasy diner food would undo all that work I’ve done. One fry will inevitably lead to a whole plate which leads to a burger and, next thing you know, I’ll have ordered two large pizzas to whatever roadside motel I make home for the night. No. Head down. Bathroom. Leave.

Corner Booth
I was having a heated discussion with my mom. It was all in my head, but I was getting my thought out regardless. I’ve started having these conversations with myself instead of with her, not because I was afraid of these conversations with her, but because I knew how they would end. In my head, I get a tearful apology and changed actions that confirmed that apology. In reality, however, it would end in a fight. I would plead my case, she would insist she’s doing absolutely nothing wrong with that tone that takes me back to her middle naming me when I was in trouble when I was young. Her brow would furrow and I would retaliate in that booming voice that frightened my brother when he was little. We wouldn’t surrender until the other walked away and then we wouldn’t speak without harsh tones for days. Eventually, sweeping the issue under the rug to fester and never again see the light of day. This is how every confrontation with my mother has gone for as long as I can remember, and I don’t have it in me to fight right now. So, I play both parts and say each line over and over until I get the result I feel I deserve. Just another item to add to the list of things I need to talk about in therapy.

Let’s talk about periods!
How often do you think about how much waste is made when you're on your period? If you use traditional pads and tampons, it's quite a bit. In their lifetime, tampon users will use and dispose of, on average, 11,000 tampons. Each year, around 12 billion pads and 7 billion tampons end up in landfills. Not to mention the tampons that are flushed and go through the water system. So what are the alternatives? Well, my fellow period-havers, there are so many more sustainable options out there. Here are just a few.

With a Gracious Soul and a Heart Full of Love
Finding peace in the busy world can be a difficult thing. Finding the time to access the peace you can find can be tricky. Just ten minutes a day of mindfulness can make all the difference. If you are not the type to sit in silence and connect to the mind, walking meditation might be for you. Walking meditation can help you feel more grounded and balanced while allowing you to establish an awareness of your body, thoughts, and surroundings. For this meditation, find a pathway you enjoy and feel comfortable walking. Allow yourself to be in the moment along the way and open your mind and find comfort within yourself.

Spice Up Your Teen Spirit
It’s 1998, I’m four years old sitting in the back seat of my dad’s Jeep Cherokee singing ‘Big Empty’ by Stone Temple Pilots at the top of my lungs. I lovingly referred to this as ‘the da song’ because, of course, four year old me made up my own lyrics and before Scott Weiland would break into the chorus (“Time to take her home her dizzy head is conscious laden”) I would scream ‘DAAA’. Normally, a four year old singing along to a song that the singer has said is “about f—cking in the backseat of your car” would seem odd; but, to this day, it’s one of my dad’s favorite memories.
