Scary Disney: The Jungle Book: Kaa, Shere Khan and The Fight
The Jungle Book is a classic tale of a boy abandoned in a jungle who is taken in by wolves and hunted by a tiger who is thirsty for his blood. The story has been adapted into many movies and in 1967 Walt Disney took it on but died during the production making it his last movie to be released. Disney's version is wonderful adding in King Louie and some catchy songs we’d be singing for years to come.

Scary Disney: The Sword in the Stone: The Beginning, The Wolf, The Pike, The Hawk and Madam Mim
The Sword in the Stone. The classic tale of a young boy pulling a sword from a stone and becoming King of England. A boy named Arthur, or called Wart by the people around him, is out hunting with his older brother Kay one day. Kay’s arrow lands in the forest so he makes Arthur go and get it. Arthur comes across a wizard’s house where he embarks on a journey of madness. On the day of his brother’s tournament, Arthur realises he has left Kay’s sword at an inn, which is closed. He panics and sees the sword in a stone in a church courtyard, so he takes it without any trouble. He runs back to the tournament where some of the knights recognise the sword and Arthur is crowned King of England. Walt made this a great movie and left a few horror elements frightening its younger viewers.

Scary Disney: Sleeping Beauty: Maleficent, The Spindle Wheel and the Dragon
Sleeping Beauty as we know it is truly a beautiful film. Princess Aurora is stunning, even Prince Philip is quite a catch. What is not so beautiful though is Maleficent. Like the Evil Queen in Snow White Maleficent makes an outstanding entrance leaving audiences terrified the moment we set eyes on our villains. What gets me about Maleficent is that she was upset about not being invited to a party so sets an evil curse on a baby. No wonder she was green in the face with all that envy.

Peter Pan: Growing up, Captain Hook and The Bomb
Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t grow up. A story of a young boy who whisks away three children to Neverland on a journey which they will never forget. They come across mermaids, pirates, Indians and set to fly a pirate ship home. Walt Disney made this a classic film with some unforgettable songs and characters making it one of his greatest movies. In the end of the original tale Peter tries to bar Wendy from returning to her own home, he sees her mother distressed so instead leaves the window open for Wendy. Mrs Darling adopts the lost boys but Peter refuses as he is scared, ‘they will catch him and make him a man,’ so he flies back to Neverland. He brings Wendy every year for a spring clean and returns her home. He eventually forgets about Captain Hook, Tinkerbell and the lost boys. Two very different endings.

Scary Disney: Alice in Wonderland: The Walrus and the Carpenter, The Cheshire Cat and The Queen of Hearts
Alice in Wonderland is a strange tale written by Lewis Carroll about a young girl named Alice and her wonderful adventures in Wonderland. Walt Disney took this story and made in into an animation with some unforgettable songs and characters making it a fantastic movie. Though not as frightening as other Disney movies Walt left his mark on this film with a few creepy details.

Scary Disney: Cinderella: Lady Tremaine, The Stepsisters, Lucifer and The Horses
Cinderella. The fairy tale of a young maiden whose father passes away then goes to live with her stepmother and stepsisters. Cinderella lives a life of torment until one night she meets her fairy godmother who helps her get dressed to go to the ball to meet the man of her dreams, but there is a catch, she must get home before midnight. She accidentally drops her shoe whilst running away from the royal palace guards, luckily for the Prince he picks up the shoe and finds Cinderella and weds her immediately. In the original Grimm’s tale version the stepsisters had their eyes pecked out by birds and were forced to be Cinderella’s slave. Walt decided to leave this out and just have the stepmother and stepsisters exiled from the kingdom. A more lighter ending for a children’s movie.

Scary Disney: Bambi: Death, The Enemy, Dogs and the Fire
Bambi is one of Walt Disney's greatest ever creations. The story circulates around Bambi, a young deer who grows up in the forest, he meets friends and some enemies. One day out in a meadow he and his mother are chased by hunters, his mother is shot and Bambi is left wondering alone in the forest. He bumps into his father, who then helps bring him up. Bambi meets a girl who he falls in love with and lives his life with. A forest fire starts where he and his girlfriend are chased, they run away and find a safe place to live in the forest, they then start a family of their own. A very happy ending to a tragic tale. Scary Disney: Dumbo: The Roustabouts, The Crows and the Pink Elephants
Dumbo, the flying elephant with incredibly large ears is a classic film with a few little flaws that will always stay in your memory. In a circus in Florida all the mothers receive their babies from the storks, Mrs Jumbo, receives a small baby with large ears who her friends mock. They tease him and call him Dumbo because of his large ears but Mrs Jumbo ignores this and loves him for who he is. One day at the circus a group of children bully Dumbo to which Mrs Jumbo becomes enraged and hits one of the children. The ringmaster calms her down and has her locked up. This saddens Dumbo who later on finds a mouse and becomes friends with him. Timothy Mouse cheers him up and they get drunk together. They wake up in a tree the next morning and come across a flock of crows who encourage Dumbo to fly. Dumbo perks up and they go back to the circus, he performs an act and stuns the world and becomes the most famous elephant in the world. His mother is let out of the cage and Dumbo flies high, free and happy. A few scenes in the movie leave us thinking, what was Walt thinking?

Scary Disney: Pinocchio: The Coachman, Donkeys and The Whale
Pinocchio. The famous wooden puppet who was magicked to life by a blue fairy and desired to be a real boy one day. Mr Disney made a masterpiece of this but left a few dark details that we’d all remember for years to come. Honest John and his pal Gideon the cat lead him astray from school one day and convinced him to join a puppet show with a man called Stromboli. After an outstanding show Pinocchio wishes to go home, but Stromboli has other plans and locks him in a bird cage against Pinocchio's own will, a nightmare for all children. Miss Blue Fairy appears from nowhere, and then Pinocchio starts to lie about his whereabouts that day, not a very good role model to kids here, he vows to be good and Miss Blue Fairy lets him go. Stromboli could have been nicer by offering him money, fame and telling Geppetto, but I guess the whole story would have been different that way. The word kidnap comes to mind, which gives off a bad message to its audiences. Pinocchio is led to Pleasure Island where he makes a friend, Lampwick, he smokes, drinks which leads to him being half turned into a donkey, he runs away and ends up jumping into the ocean trying to save his Father. He comes across a montster of a whale, Monstro, who has Gepetto living in his mouth. Pinocchio manages to save his father and the Blue Fairy turns him into a human, a happy ending for everyone. The movie did however leave in a few scenes enough to scar its viewers for the rest of their lives.
