The deep airy whistle echoes in my ears, haunting and heartbreaking. Keening like a banshee, its loud wailing rouses me from my slumber. The supporting soft chug and sigh with the clack of striking iron keep rhythmic time with the sways of the car that rock my body back and forth.

There weren’t always Dragons in The Valley. It was shortly after the summer solstice when the first one arrived, cruising through the sleepy little mountain town on his loud rumbling motorcycle, the obnoxious intruder disturbing the slow peacefulness of the place as he rode up to the Park and Sleep motel at the edge of town.

Rina's Dream
Clutching the throttle, Rina pulled back hard, cringing a little at the pain in her shoulder as she brought her small ship to an abrupt halt in the docking bay. It felt good to be home. With no fuel for her jump drive, the trip back was three weeks of boring with nothing to do but think about how she got herself into this mess.

His beautiful head lobbed onto the floor with a thud, skittering away to a corner of the room. “Well, that’s the last of them—at least for tonight,” Rina sighed. Sheathing her Kimo sword, she delicately tiptoed around the pools of black blood, careful to collect the heart shaped locket from each body as she passed.
