Did Someone Say CAMP Food?
Ohhhhhhh SUMMER!!!!!! As the seasons change and you approach, my tastebuds excitedly await the summer treats cold to eat. Fresh cold watermelon that you MUST eat outside due to the juiciness of this thirst-quenching beast. Remember “Don’t swallow the seed or you’ll grow a watermelon in your belly!”, LOL. I can’t believe I hesitated to think if that was even possible. Yet I found myself saying the same thing to our Summer Campers of our YMCA. A program I LOVED to run for over 15 years in a few different states.

Children&AnimalsONLY
In being HONEST and TRUTHFUL with myself and with YOU….. I do often mention that I prefer working with children and animals. Often the response to that statement is that children are ok IF they are well-behaved. And the same goes for pets too. Let me ask you this….. Isn’t your ideas of BEHAVED different from the next person's? Let me help you out and give a quick resounding YES! The whole idea is for you to explore OTHER perspectives that may sweeten the pot of life for you! And the beauty of the FREEWILL of HUMANkind is that IF we really really do not resonate with someone else's version of BEHAVED……… WE are allowed to walk away!!!

My Journey Through Mental Health Education
After reading the chapter, our instructor asked us to explain MOTIVATION in our understanding and how it affects our behavior. In other words, if you are hungry you WILL find a way to eat. Or if you are scared, you run or hide. These are normal behaviors, right? I went a little deeper........

My Journey Through Mental Health Education
WE were asked to review major issues studied by psychologists and I did, my way. I think it's great that my instructor finds some humor in what I say. I think life is too damn serious, to begin with. IF we can't talk lightly on tough subjects then we will never truly talk about them, will we?

My Journey Through Mental Health Education
Just finishing one of my shorter courses this semester and in the Extra Credit column, our instructor asked for a brief review of anything pertaining to mental health and counseling. For one of mine I upon a book. Well, I can't really do a review/critique so I decided to do a pre-review based on the introduction. I thought it was pretty clever, and my instructor is well aware of my quirky personality in writing.

My Journey Through Mental Health Education
In my previous entry (The Profound Experience #4) I shared with you the prompt from an instructor I have. This is the second entry that I decided to submit for more extra credit (don't judge, I love this subject). Unfortunately for him, this was definitely one that needed way more words. LOL, he is going to hate me (in a good way, I hope) when he gets to it.

My Journey Through Mental Health Education
A Journal Entry Series We are knee-deep in what it means to be a Social Worker. It is just an introductory course but the discussion rooms are hot with debate. The instructor is great a prompting them! So in one of the feeds', a classmate's understanding of the position (based on a short video) was a little heavy with judgment. I decided to respond (at length LOL). I thought it was pretty good and my instructor agreed.

My Journey Through Mental Health Education
OH BOY!! Touchy subject ALERT!! Research on and about sexual orientation? I'm game! I have no fears of discussing this topic at all. And it was brought to my attention that I have an "overly" healthy outlook. How is that even possible? LOL, I just look at people differently than (let's say) most do.

My Journey Through Mental Health Education
Woke up to an email from my Psychology instructor asking my permission to publish this with his next set of the curriculum! WHAAAAAAT!!! YEA!!! I've only been asked that once and it wasn't from school it was from our towns' writing contest. So this is pretty big for me. I thought I'd share it with you and see if it hits you as profoundly as it did him.

Generosity Karma
You either give because you genuinely care or because you have a very clear memory of when YOU received much-needed help and wish to return that blessing. When you are in desperate times and someone steps up to help, you have a moment to breathe without struggling. Even if all that is given is a cup of coffee and like so many people, I enjoy when the holiday flavors reach Starbucks or Coffee bean. I look forward to my first cup of Pumpkin Spice Latte or Butter Cookie latte. There have been quite a few times where that was not even in the books for me but this was not one of them. I had successfully ordered a Pumpkin Spice Latte and a Peppermint Mocha Latte (for my assistant) and was exiting our offramp when I spotted him.
