Hometown New York City Brooklyn
For people living in small to mid-size hometowns, it is easy to write about their towns. However, for someone like me who was born and raised in New York City, it is rather difficult. Therefore I will look upon the borough of Brooklyn as my small town away from the teeming streets of Manhattan and the other boroughs. If you know about Brooklyn and find a neighborhood missing it is just that I wrote about all the ones I knew and where I have been. I was born in a very quiet corner of Brooklyn called Bay Ridge so I began my tour there.

Vancouver on Burrard Peninsula
Vancouver is a major city in western Canada, located in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. Stanley Park is adjacent to Downtown Vancouver and is a peninsula with huge trees. The green space is encircled by a paved seawall path which is a great place for strolling or biking. There are lovely blooming cherry trees in the spring and rhododendrons. In the summer people enjoy the heated outdoor pool right by the edge of the ocean.

Jacksonville the River City
“Jax” as the locals call the city is the place where the South meets the North. Jacksonville is rich in historical and cultural heritage. It is a river city around the St. Johns River which runs through the city. As surprising as it might seem Jacksonville was the original Hollywood in the early 1900s. It was the motion picture capital of the world before Los Angeles, California took over and everything and everyone concerned with the film industry moved west.

Desert Caravan
I had arrived in Cairo, Egypt a week ago. Being a retired school teacher and mostly a loner I was starting my further life by working on my bucket list. I discovered that Cairo was a city in a lovely location on the Nile River. Being a fan of author Agatha Christie and her novels I already knew something about this river. I was excited about the possibility of taking a tour boat on the river but first, the most important thing to me was to sign up with a caravan heading to Giza and its iconic pyramids and especially the Great Sphinx.

I was born in a very quiet corner of Brooklyn called Bay Ridge so I began my tour there. In the north-central part of the borough of Brooklyn in New York City, one can find the neighborhoods of Clinton Hill, Fort Greene on the north is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Prospect Heights to the south is relatively small. As I continue I will paste the links for the neighborhoods I have written about below.

The Ghosts of Oklahoma
Gilcrease Museum is located on Gilcrease Museum Road in Tulsa. The museum has 23 acres of thermal gardens which are accessible to visitors. This sandstone mansion was built in 1913 by a Tulsa lawyer named Flower Nelson who had bought the 80-acre land parcel in 1909. In 1943 the mansion became a home for orphaned Indian children from nearby reservations. At this time a 2nd floor was added with 4 bedrooms for the Indian girls and another building was built for the boys. In 1949 Thomas Gilcrease moved back into the house.
