Friends for a Reason and a Season, Love for a Lifetime
It was an afternoon in early August. The kind of day that held summer’s heat yet hinted at the cool autumn air to come. My partner Brie and I sat in the back seat of our friend’s car with our sweet cat Isis between us in her soft carrier bag. I pet her silky fur through the opening at the top as we rolled from the northwest end of Toronto all the way southeast. We were headed to the animal hospital in the neighbourhood we had left behind just three weeks earlier. That mid-pandemic move turned out to be the last major life change my girl Isis would see me through.

Be Proud of Your Bad Art
I have two of my own paintings displayed in my home. Are they well-done? Not particularly but I display them nonetheless, right along with paintings and prints by much more talented friends and artists. It’s important to recognize the value in creative endeavours, regardless of overall quality. That’s why I hang my bad paintings and revel at their colour when I pass them in my home.

If Queer Art is a Sin, Call Me a Sinner
I, along with so many others in the queer community right now, am living for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” by Lil Nas X. I’m especially energized by his bold, unapologetic pride in who he is and the art he is putting out into the world. For every person outraged by his new video, released on March 26, and the brilliant marketing he’s done for it, there’s a whole swath of people who feel seen, validated and represented.
