Suburbia Dreams
In a small trinket store in an unnamed town, a globe the size of an apple sits upon a dusty table, obscured in part by an embroidered shawl and rusting jewels. Within its polished sphere tumbles flakes of crystal, although the globe has not been turned for months. Iridescent silt lines the base, and clouds of tumbleweed form, as if moved by a brisk wind. Reflected in the glass is the face of a young woman; green eyes wide, and pink lips parted. The shopkeeper dangles a candle snuffer over an open flame - but does not extinguish it - as they notice the girl.

What I Learned in my first 100 Hours of Playing DOTA
"There are no new DOTA players" - Ancient Proverb "There are no new DOTA players..." - At least, that's what people keep telling me every time they ask what I'm playing at the moment. "Still playing Overwatch?" a regular customer asks. "No!" I enthuse, "I actually started playing DOTA!"

Dancing in the Dark Room
Amalie Waking up here is like waking to the sun creaking through drawn blinders. Amalie feels a honey-bee brushing by her earlobe, depositing pollen into her hair and the sound of bird-song has her creaking open a single eye. She smiles, a gentle thing, before bolting upright to the trill of rapturous giggles.

Let's Talk About Vocal Challenges
To be a part of the Vocal Media Writers community on social media is to be an anthropologist majoring in imposter syndrome and grandiose delusions. I myself am not exempt from either of these descriptors. I have experienced both, and each in response to the announcement of challenge winners. As someone who has been watching (and engaging in) discussions about Vocal challenges for five months now, I have a few words of advice and some questions I would like to extend to the lovely people who make it all work.

The Inspector of Dead Letters
David had been handling a strangely high amount of suspicious looking brown paper packages lately. It was customary for a mail-man to receive one or two, but in the past fortnight the sheer velocity of suspicious brown parcels placing into unsuspecting mailboxes had David furrowing his brow in confusion.

A List of Common Gaslighting Phrases to Look Out For
Gaslighting is a form of emotional-abuse that is used to make the target question their reality. While gaslighting can be used unintentionally by unhealthy adults, it is most often used on purpose as a tool of emotional-control. People who gaslight to gain control of others are committing emotional abuse, and are likely using other forms of manipulation to control the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours of others, such as smear-campaigns, the silent-treatment, and passive aggressive behaviour.

The Art of Getting By
The man sitting across from me - Gabe - has asked me a strange question, "you always been this beautiful?" he says. I laugh to myself, a montage of my week plays in my head like a movie reel. Unwashed clothes scattered across the floor; my long pale fingers sifting through them, checking for stains. Unkempt hair, and the collection of used mugs organised in a straight line across my coffee table.
