Political Promises
Political promises Lies Under Another Name I keep seeing social media posts, supporting politicians who promise to deal with all the world's problems. If only they get into power. They make it seem so simple: they will end homelessness, they will end poverty, they will bring about world peace, they will end injustice. They will personally see that the public health services have all the money they need, they will ensure the ending of higher education tuition fees, they will change the world, they will ensure wonderful summer's of peace, love, and prosperity. They will end terrorism.

Political "Education" of the Young
Should teachers be allowed to politically educate our children? This essay results from reading a post on Facebook. A post was questioning why do some on the Left continue to apparently ignore the millions killed in Russia and China during the imposition of one party “communist” government make the case for communism or insist upon applying a ridiculous veneer of objectivity when discussing its history? They quite rightly wouldn’t do this with the horror that was fascism or apartheid South Africa. And yet to wave a hammer and sickle flag at a rally is to celebrate a record of bloodshed and misery.

Self-Determination or Destiny?
Self determination or preordained destiny? Do we have free will? Or are we manipulated by some cosmic force? Can we be individuals free from control by events and other people? Or are our lives so intermingled and so woven into the vast sticky web of life itself, that we can not escape?

International Interference in American Elections
International interference in domestic elections. In the media, there are claims that the United States of America is accusing Russia of “tampering” with their (U.S.) election. To a Brit in England, this seems a pointless raising of contention, and makes me consider whether President Trump or his enemies, have an ulterior motive.

Deterioration of Political Debate
There are lots of reports of extreme nastiness and violent hatred over political opinion. Rationally this is difficult to comprehend since politics is such a fluid every changing concept and these are opinions, however strongly held that are only opinions. History is the only real judgment on any political policy and even then we have to be cautious since “history is written by the victor.” Judgement on the merit of a future policy has to be an opinion.

Cause Then Complain
Cause Then Complain Blame everyone except yourself. This is a favourite ploy of politicians on all sides of the debate. Policies they supported while in power, have disadvantages that come to be noticed after they have left office and they suddenly become critics of that policy. Presumably, in the hope that the electorate have short memories or maybe because they themselves have selective amnesia.

Doomsday Politics 2018
Doomsday Politics February 2018 We now have two doomsday arguments going on in the popular media. Climate change, with its deceitful presentations from just about everyone, from all sides of the debate has now been joined by lurid stories of a change in planet Earth's magnetic polarity.

Government Economic Forecasting, Mythology, or Science?
As a retired estimating and costing engineer, I see so much reliance based on estimates that cannot possibly have a shred of accuracy; by accuracy I mean the engineering estimators allowance of + or – 2%. One quote I saw today is, unfortunately, true: the economic forecasting from British bureaucrats makes astrology look a science.

Is Government by Artificial Intelligence the Way Forward?
Are we to be governed by artificial intelligence? Could this be worse then present political bigotry? At present, most democratic nations are governed through some form of political party system, with the result that an election can mean a change of direction, for the economy and governing attitude towards everything. Then 5 years later it gets reversed and all political directions are changed again.
