Invitation
Nov. 22, 2022 The weirdest thing happened today. This morning, I heard something buzzing, and Tasmin started barking. Just a couple normal barks first, then she started going crazy, barking and yipping and whining. I looked out to see what was getting her so wound up.

The Diamond of Forever
There weren't always dragons in the valley. As she climbed up to it, Tara hoped there wouldn't be any there today – it was much easier to collect dragon samples when the actual dragons were elsewhere. Yesterday a trio of young dragons had hung around the valley all day, leaping off the cliff-top, bathing in the lake, sunning on rocks. It had been exhilerating to watch them, and she had captured some incredible footage of their aerobatics and other natural behaviours, but that wasn't what she was here for. She wanted to know how dragons were possible.

The River Itself
I used to love water. Swam in it, boated on it, admired sun diamonds dancing on its surface, took baths in it. Until last week. Now I can barely bring a glass of water to my lips, allow that slippery liquid to slide into my mouth and down my throat, invite it inside of me, swallow. I shudder and tense at the very thought, and have to force myself to drink water to survive. I've even started carrying a reusable straw with me, drinking everything through that! As if that could stop the water. I know better, after what I saw, what I lived through, but we all have our little delusions to help us cope with this life. Allow me mine. It keeps the 'in' out of my sanity.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to a Story...
One of the things I love about Vocal challenges is the how they get me thinking about all sorts of stuff, musing about possibilities, wondering how to incorporate this or that random item into a story... I never knows where the journey will lead. Like, a funny story about a childhood friend, eh?

This planet is a truly magnificent place of wonders unending: sea stretching out to the horizon, and the rocks it crashes against, or the shore it gently laps; forests spreading across hills and up mountains, green shot through with all the colours of the rainbow, of life, of trees flowers lichens insects mammals birds... Exquisite crystal-filled caves, badlands littered with ancient fossils, deserts, plains, deltas, lakes big and small and on and on around the globe more to see always changing day by day and season by season and the sky above it all, clear blue or stormy grey or washed with a sunset palette, or filled with glowing rainbow rings like this:
