Risk Assessment and the limits of Science are not always in sync. Recently, the EPA has written more than 7,500 risk assessments annually in various forms to carry out regulatory responsibilities. The executive Order 12866 during the Clinton administration proposed that all regulatory agencies, not only environmental ones (Institute of Medicine, 1994), “...consider, to the extent reasonable, the degree and nature of risks posed by various substances or activities within its jurisdiction” and mandating that each proposed regulatory action explain how the action will reduce risks “as well as how the magnitude of risk addressed by the action relates to other risks within the jurisdiction of the agency...” By 1993, the same administration elevated risk assessment: requiring in traditional risk assessment associated with environmental regulation creates a flow of decisions that indicates, when the EPA or another regulatory agency is required to determine whether a substance constitutes a sufficient hazard (Rosenbaum, 2017).
One of the world’s major river systems in size, habitat diversity and biological productivity is the Mississippi River. Equally important as a commercial waterway and US migration routes for both birds and fish. Aboriginals to the continent long lived along its banks, using the river for sustenance and transportation. When early explorers arrived they used the river to extend exploration into the interior and the northern continent Fur traders via portage plied their trade on this waterway as several nations vied for strategic points, at various times, along this mighty river when the area was still a frontier gateway (Dempsey, 2020).
Colleagues from Harvard, the Cabot Institute, and Bristol's School of Experimental Psychology in Australia show how language is used to frame and prime topics in the media today. Professor Stephan Lewandowsky participated with associates on the importance of word placement and how it becomes part of accepted source credits within the scientific community. Reinforcing a misleading or misread data to reframe the topic to fit a specific agenda. (Lewandowsky, 2015).
Like with all law, areas are left loose in efforts to allow the deciding powers to adjust the law to the specific problem at hand. Unfortunately unlike the forests that are being discovered to have a democratic if not social understanding of reality on earth. When others are allowed to grow strong and powerful it makes a secure environment for the entire forest to strive. If you include your neighbors in your prosperous endeavours in turn they will alarm you when danger is present.
SYNAESTHESIA: "coping with the demands of learning”
Not an illness or mental disorder. But an alternate way to navigate reality combining senses in a novel manner to interpret the environment existed within. Synesthesia is thought to have evolved from framing and priming by societal norms, not present in these individuals leaving them to explore the senses uniquely, originally without the confines of judgement. Dr. Montessori began studies to nurture this observation made as synesthetes as they are called are primarily problem solvers. There is a genetic component to synesthesia, which travels from parent to child.
I am surprised how the general population of the US is so deeply asleep, prattling along day to day not looking up. It reminds one of a children's book where no one want s to make waves, are too meek to say “this looks wrong”, are not morally evolved to question what exactly my freedom looks like. According to Socaby Wilson’s observation “If … laws and regulations were enforced fairly across all … groups, we wouldn’t have environmental injustice”.
War oil “… ruthless smoothing of Ogoniland was embarked on in a spirit of racism and ethnic hatred …” Often in the bias performed against others the US overlooks the responsibility of consumers to the geocide imposed on peoples that provide a service to our nation's citizens. How many die each year to allow the US to prime its inhabitants in the must have and needs of a convenient western lifestyle.
“ … and God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful and multiply … replenish the earth … subdue it … have dominion over the fish of the sea … the fowl of the air and every living thing that moveth upon the earth …” The only time I have ever felt this quote was used in the intended context by Ubiquitous is in the argument of the use of flora, particularly Cannabis.
